Hello. This will be my first year bow hunting and I need to choose a broadhead. I don't know if I should get a fixed blade or mechanical. And I want a 100 grain head. And I cant spend a lot because I'm not rich lol. Thanks.
It's a bear bow. 300 fps. 50-70 lb. Il b shooting like 60-65. 31 inch arrows. And idk the weight of them.
31" arrow seems very, very long. Have they been cut for you? As for broadheads. if your looking something that isn't going to break the bank it is hard to beat a muzzy or slick trick.
BPS has the NAP Bloodrunner 2 & 3 blade on salefor a few more days for $29. Just picked some up yesterday and will be shooting them this season! Sent from my T8788 using Board Express
I too am brand new to bow-hunting! And I thought surely I would need a 31" arrow but I went to my local pro and he measured me and cut my arrows at 27 1/4". He also sold me some +/- .001 carbon express arrows with field tips for $6.76 each not much more than the big box sporting goods store wanted for 31" .006 arrows without tips. I am glad I went the pro-shop way; 4" less of shaft has to make my arrows (a)lighter (b)faster and (c)fly straighter. Plus all the tips that I have gleaned from the "bow tech" at the shop. He also suggested a mechanical broadhead for me, G5 Tekan 2. Side note-I asked him what I should call him: all that shoot bows are archers so I can't call him that so I suggested that I call him a 'fletcher' since he does do that but we laughed and he said bow-tech! Anyone know the proper term? Like gunsmith? Hurry up Sept 15!!!!!!
slick tricks are awesome , I shoot the G5 strikers myself. 3 are $39.00 the tricks are $28.00 I think
Flipping through the new Cabela's Archery catalog this morning, I was remarking to a coworker how many different broadhead offerings are available. The same company will produce 3 - 5 different offerings that all do the same thing - kill a whitetail deer if the shot placement is correct. My personal choice is to use SlickTrick Magnums and Rage 2-blade heads. I take both to the field and killed deer last year with both. Don't know why I nock one more than the other on some days, but I switch between the 2 with great success. I can say I put a bad shot on a doe last year with a Rage and don't know if I would have recovered her without the 2" cut. Left a big old hole in her. The only other broadhead I tried was the Carbon Express F15 expandable I received last year when they were offering a free head for the cost of shipping. My experience was the same as several other friends - it offered poor penetration. My opinion is mechanicals partially came in to use to compensate for poor bow tuning. Of course, that isn't the only reason and just because you prefer/shoot a mechanical doesn't mean your bow isn't tuned. Try a couple heads that are in your price range and have good shot placement and you'll be eating backstraps.
Ok thanks. Ya what I'm kinda looking for is a 100 grain 3 blade fixed broadhead or a 3 blade mechanical broadhead for like 30 dollars for a 3 pack
Depending on what model you get the Magnus BH's are around $24 for a three pack and come with a lifetime warrenty. If you damage the BH for any reason you send it to them and they send you a new one. Can't beat that. But they are great heads as well. Good luck. Quite honestly there are so many darn good BH's out there these days it's hard to go wrong if your shot placement is good.
I was going to use Carbin Express head this year. I bought a pack. From my experience with them, stay away from them. I bent 2 furells the first day tuning them. I had the quad pro's. Now they are sharp. Very sharp. I sliced my thumb on one. If you want a decent head that wont break the bank check out the NAP Thunderhead. Walmart has them for $19.95 a pack. I believe they are the older model not the New Razor.
I personally like the slick trick, grizz tricks. They're a 4 blade, 1 1/4 inch. At 50 yards I was shooting them right with my field points, didn't have to touch the bow from the original tune (you will have to test, tuning is typically required). As Brad stated above, mangus. I haven't personally shot them, but I have yet to hear anything negative. So I will get some myself, probably in the spring to play with.
ah yes next time i buy broadheads it going to be some more fixed blades. 100 grn and they will be cheap from wal-mart or gander. last time i saw some at gander they were selling some real cheap ones that looked really good and sharp. they were the ones you have to 'put together'. sorry i forget the brand name but thats what im getting!
If they sell them on this site, at your local pro shop or Wal Mart, they will be fine for hunting whitetails. Put it this way: If you don't get a deer this year, it won't be because of your selection in broadheads. There is no more overhyped and overpriced piece of gear on the market. They all work fine.
Buy something sturdy and sharp, put it in the boiler room and = dead deer. No need to break the bank with $10 heads. A simple 3 blade $5 Muzzy or Thunderhead will kill 'em just as dead as anything out there. My question is why are you set on 100 grain? The 125 grain (or more) is going to give you better FOC which means a more forgiving arrow with better penetration.
