Yes, I am starting back up the proverbial question of which broadheads are the best for elk???? I am going on my first bowhunt for elk this year and I would really like everyones input. I use rage 2 blades for everything else I
hunt but i'm not sure these will do what I want for elk. What are everyones thoughts?

Depends on the state but some do not allow mechanical heads.
My personal opinion is get a good cut on contact super sharp non mechanical head. I like the WAC em heads with replaceable blades made in Utah. They fly great and are super sharp. Muzzy makes some great cut on contact heads and I'm sure there are several others. We shoot hogs and the cut on contacts blow right through the shield.

Thanks for the info! I will be hunting in Colorado if that makes a difference on the laws. I am shooting a Matthews switchback XT set on 70 lbs.

I have not had the best results with Rage broadheads on elk. For deer they do great. Like Squirrelduster said a good cut on contact broadhead is always a good bet. If you like mechanical heads I have a good friend that has shot 2 elk with the grim reaper ( 5 point bull and a cow) They worked great on his elk.

I never elk hunted, but i would use Muzzy's junst in case you hit shoulder. That Trocar tip should break threw it

You would be hard pressed to go thru an elks shoulder bone. Many have tried and many have failed.

I'm planning on elk hunting Colorado and plan to have NAP Hellrazors in my quiver backed by a heavy arrow.

Purebowhunting, You should do fine with the hellrazor. As most bow hunters know its shot placement. There is something about hunting elk with a bow that once you do it, you cant get enough of it.

Matt9589, How do you like your Bear bow?

Years ago I shoot a couple bulls with plan old thunder heads, they worked fine. I wouldn't use a mech on elk, deer yes, pronghorn yes, mule deer, caribou yes....elk no. They are big and tuff, the advise to stay away from the shoulder is a good one. If I was going hunt elk tomorrow I wouldn't think twice about shooting the Ramcats i have in my quiver now...

Dont waste your time with mechanicals. Take a look at the SHUTTLE T LOCK by Trophy Taker, Dan Evans is and ELK KILLING MACHINE and his broadhead is the best broadhead I have ever used, elk, bear, whitetail, it's pure devistation!

Trail153, I had to look up a ramcat BD to see what they were. I have never seen them here. I do like the way they cut both ways.

So far they are best shooting Fixed blade BH I ever used. The penetration is sick and that with the bigger cutting diameter.

1 3/8" cut is really good. The reviews looked good. How fast are you shooting?
