Hey guys, I've got a spot and stalk black bear hunt on Vancouver Island that's coming up soon. I've been bowhunting for bear before, but never for bear that very well could be 350+ pounds. What type of broadhead do you all suggest? Would an expandable get it done, or do I need to go something more rugged, like a magnus stinger or Montec?
I shoot a Hoyt Maxxis 31 at 70 lbs 29 inch draw length, and Easton FMJ's 400s...10.2 grains per inch.

Just stick with a COC BH. No worries then. My biggest bear dressed out at 325lbs. I was pulling 72lbs with my recurve. I was using a 3 blade Magnus Snuffer. Complete pass through and stuck Into a log on the other side of the bear. The bear went 22 yards and died.

I too am interested in a black bear broadhead. The nap nightmare is getting a big look from me. Has anybody had any success/failures with this head?

G5 Strikers or Grim Reapers. It's all about shot placement of course but both heads are durable and my personal preference. Just got back from my first bear hunt. Very memorable and fun. Enjoy and be safe.

also agree that heads used for your deer hunting will work on blackies if shot placement is right. took a 435lb blackie this past fall with muzzy mx-3s, 100 gr. another hunter in camp used slick trick 100 gr to harvest his.

I've been thinking of using the same broadheads I use for deer too. I'm glad someone else has come out with that advice. Seems everyone here is into Muzzy or NAP broadheads, but I'm going to defy everyone. :p I plan on using my 100-grain Rage 2-blade broadheads. I know they'll do the job on a deer, if I do my part and I'm pretty confident that they'll do the same on a bear, even though I know they're a fair sight bigger than an average deer!! We'll have to see how they perform though!!

The 3 blade Rage works great on all big game for me. Just took a 400lb bear a few weeks ago and it went thru the chest and the barrel with no problems. killed em both dead !!! The barrel was no good eating tho ..
