I'm sorry to even ask this guys, but I'm truly overwhelmed with the sheer number of broadheads on the market.

    What I am wanting:

    - Deer and Turkey head (can be different)
    - Fixed or mechanical (don't have a preference)

    - Destruction (just don't want the animal running forever)
    - Accuracy
    - Reliability

    My bow setup:

    z7 xtreme, 28 inch draw, 70 lbs weight, 363 grain arrow (28 inch easton flatline 8.2, .340)

I want a head that will perform up to 50 yards and fly like a field point, with maximum destruction.

    Possible candidates:

    G5 Tekken
    G5 T3
    Rage 2 blade
    Meatseekers
    Slick Tricks
    G5 Montec - already have
    Grim Reaper

I just can't afford to get and test them all.

    Opinions?

Arguing which BH is the best is like arguing that your favorite color is the best. It all comes down to personal preference.

First thing to consider is, you have plenty of KE to use a mechanical so that alleviates that concern.

I can tell you if you want a head to shoot like a FP out to 50 yards you may have to do a lot of fine tuning to get a large fixed head to do that.

A mechanical WILL typically fly better out to longer distances with less tuning. Please note that you still need to tune if you shoot a mechanical even though the BH won't show your tuning flaws.

My question is, why do you want to shoot out to 50 yards? Are you heading out west? 50 yards on any animal is getting out there. And the selection of your BH very well could be affected by the distance you want to shoot.

My personal preference is a fixed blade BH. I tune my bow so they shoot like FP's out to 35-40 yards. But I spend a lot of time tuning. 50 yards will require even more tuning.

Also a fixed blade BH you never have to worry about it opening in your quiver or not opening on an animal.

You are going to hear lots of different opinions on this and the only clear answer is that there is no right answer for everyone.

Lots of things to consider. Good luck.

Check out NAP broadheads. I like alot of them, specifically the spitfire line. Never had a single issue with them performing and they fly really great, the mechinical aspect helps there. With your set-up you shouldn't have any problems with penetration with a larger diameter cut. Good luck!!!

I know this probably only added to your problem but it is my best 2 cents.

Thanks for the write up GFY. I'm not planning on taking a 50 yard shot. All my shots are actually in the woods but a 40 - 45 is very possible. However, if i'm on at 50 then i'm on at 40... that was the motive for that.

Indiana - Those are extremely similar to the grim reapers? I know NAP makes a great product though

Hoyt'n'it - have you tried the 3 blade?

Yes they are similar, a over the top expandable. If I'm not mistaken Grim Reaper makes a couple different size cuts too? Spitfires come in 1 1/2 and 1 3/4. I blew through 3 deer this year with the spitfire maxx. Like GFY said, it will all boil down to personal preference.

I really like the spitfires, but that doesn't mean I won't be testing a few others this year :):):)

What are you planning on trying Eric?

Philly I agree. I have a set, just wondering if the extra cutting capabilities of a mechanical would be a better way to go.

I have never used mechanical broadheads and i don't think i ever will just because people complain about not opening and you have to change o rings just about every other year.

Right now the two at the top of the list are Slick Trick magnums and the Rage two blade.

I like the Slick Tricks because of the 4 fixed blades. There is more flesh being cut and I think they will leave a better hole then some of the other smaller diameter fixed blades. Plus, they are fixed and fail proof as far as opening, not that I ever had a problem with this.

I like the Rage because of the large entrance wounds. Even if you don't get a pass through you still get a very large wound that should bleed good. Plus it will be fun to test because of all the hype that goes along with these broadheads.

Well, if you want a large wound channel in a fixed blade, you can go with the German-Kinetics SilverFlame broadheads. They have a new XL version out that has a 1 1/2" cutting diameter in their 125gr and heavier heads.

    There is also the:
    Red Feather Phoenix
Magnus Stinger, Buzzcut, and Snuffer SS

I was recommended the mangus also.
I'd like to stay at 100 grains.

Well after much reading reviews and personal testimony, I have narrowed the search.

    Grim Reapers
    Meat Seekers
    Slick Tricks / Hades
    Mangus Buzzcut

I think we missed a golden opportunity in March to make our own broadhead bracket.

No I haven't but I know a few of the guys on here were shooting them before the 2-blades came out, and they liked them.

Oh I'm going to have to keep narrowing it down.. I have too much other stuff going on to be able to get all those and do testing.

So what are you thinking about narrowing it to? One fixed head, and one mechinical?

Are the meat seakers the two inch cut ones?

I know for me it Is either the NAP 2 or 3 blade Blood Runner I have had success with both. I will have the 2 blades in my quiver again tis year.. It is the best of both worlds fixed and mech. all rolled into one.. My daughter used the 3 blade two years ago on her Illinois buck shooting only 42 lbs and put it all the way through the buck.. Awesome heads..
