I am new to archery and I just bought a new bow (mission maniac). I am shooting 55/75 carbon express arrows with 100grain field tips. When I shoot the field tips I am accurate and get a very decent group near the center of the target. When I shoot 100grain broadhead tips with the same arrows the arrows are always about 6-7in low and about 4-6inches to the left and not grouped very well. Could I be doing something wrong? Should I be sighting in my bow with the field tips or the broadheads? Any information, tips, suggestions would be highly appreciated. thanks in advance.
This is happening because your bow is not in tune. You likely have two things wrong. It is likely your nock point is too high which means your need to raise your rest. That should take care of the up and down problem. Then the left/right is caused by either your rest not being centered or an improperly spined arrow (or a combination of both). You should read the Easton Tuning Guide to get you started. http://www.willowcreekarchery.com/Easton-arrow-tuning_guide.pdf Feel free to ask questions but I strongly suggest you read the above document first.
one thing I did notice, is that when I used carbon arrows that were 65/75 with the same broadheads I was right in the same area with the field tips. Could it be an issue with the arrows that I am using?
That's what Brad was telling you with the bolded statement above. Read through that tuning guide he linked to and it will walk you through getting your bow and arrows tuned up. Edit: Hitting left indicates a stiff spine reaction (assuming you are a right handed archery). You could increase your draw weight or head weight IF it is the spine of the arrow and not the rest being off center. I would recommend making sure that you have center shot set on the bow before attempting to fix any potential spine issue with your arrows.
Yeah sounds like your new arrows are overspined. But that still only explains the left right difference. You still need to address the up down difference. You should ALWAYS get your nock point set first before moving on the other tuning. Edit: Like Phillip said you can change other things to adjust your dynamic spine instead of buying different arrows. You can increase DW, increase tip weight or add arrow length (hard to do with these arrows obviously). All of these will decrease your effective spine.
my broadheads always shoot a little bit higher than field points but never had te left right issues. Nice choice on bows by the way!
