Awesome. Always wanted to see a "real" test on BHs. What they do in the Hunting magazines is always the latest and greatest. And I am sure they get there little "perks" doing these so called tests. To do this correctly is going to be quite a process. Fixed blade-permanent and replaceable blade types, mechanical, which grain weight? Arrow type, Arrow fletching/length, vanes or feathers, etc. Concrete blocks and steel drums may be entertaining to some, but don't tell me a damn thing, about what it is going to do to an animals heart, lung area. Good luck with this test. Looking forward to the results that you come up with...
sorry for bringing the post back up, but have you guys started this project yet and will it be part of the upcoming episodes for this season?
The tests are done we're in the process of editing the videos and gathering all of the results. It will be about 2-3 weeks before it's all posted on the website. It won't be part of a Bowhunt or Die show. Honestly with this being our first time doing this there's a few items I wish we would have done differently. Overall I'm happy with the results, but when we do it again next year we plan on changing things up a bit.
I would like to see the test done with and without lighted nocks to see if the FOC makes that much of a difference in the accuracy. Would like to see some wasp fixed heads as I have been using them for years and have no reason to switch unless there is some proven advantage. This will be interesting to see the results. Great idea.
Me too - that's something we plan on integrating into next year's test. IMO the extra 10-12 grains from a lighted nock isn't enough to change FOC to the point it would really affect accuracy. We tested the Drone, and it performed very well.
Yea groups at extended ranges would be a good way to test accuracy along with consistency, too bad we have to wait to next year..
I am going to be interested in seeing the penetration difference between fixed and mechanical. if there is no test comparing the two shooting at the same target then i'll be suspect to the entire test and realize there is some kind of marketing strategy behind it. if the test is performed then i'll try to believe it is legit.
You should test the muzzy trocar hybrid to see if it really has the benefits of both fixed and mechanical broadheads! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When is this going to happen? Haven't heard anything on it for awhile Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Drone is a solid head with a solid design. Its one of the toughest heads I have seen that doesn't have a solid ferrel
Agreed. It's a very solid piece of equipment. What we found in our test results is nothing that any of us didn't really already know - smaller fixed blade heads like the Drone, Thunderhead Nitro, Ramcat Diamondback, etc were the best penetrating heads.
