What kind of broadhead do you plan on using this fall and why? Trying something new or sticking with whats always taken care of business?
Going to fully equip the arrows in my quiver with NAP HellRazors this year. Last year I had 2 arrows with that broadhead and 2 with G5 Montecs. For some reason I (and my neighbor) are hearing a whistle while the Montecs are in flight. This is especially more noticible as the shots become longer such as = or >30 yards. Thought about trying the Rage 2" heads again for certain situations such as an urban hunt that I have applied for this year. Most likely will remain with what has proven to me to be a very strong, well-build cut-on-contact broadhead, though.
For my fall black bear hunt it looks like I'll be using the NAP thunderhead edge. For whitetails I'll be using what I used last year, NAP spitfire maxx. I also tested the slick trick magnums and the rage this past month, and will be testing the grim reaper whitetail special in a few weeks. I have to say I was impressed with the rage 2 blade. I am looking foward to the grim reaper testing. I like them because the tip of the ferrule extends much further out past the blades then many other over-the-top expandables. We will see how it goes.
Hey Eric, Keep that "broadheads, broadheads, broadheads" thread updated. You're going to have a lot of good, first hand knowledge. I got those meat seekeers out. Wow. I have the 3 blade 1 1/2 inch. The guy at work who turned me on to them said he dropped 3 within sight, 1 of them was shoulder shot and no pass through, but the blood trail was intense enough to drop her within 30 yards.
Switching from the 3 blade Rage to the 2 blade. 2 blade make a bigger hole. Rage has done the job for me in the past so I'm going to stick with'em
I'm probably going to shoot the NAP Hellrazor this fall, I'm headed on a moose hunt in september and want a solid broadhead, probably will stick with them throughout the fall or fall back on my old reliable spitfire maxx.
I will try to do that. Testing is fun!!! The meat seekers sound pretty dangerous, I will give them a look for sure.
i shot thunderheads for a while and got my hands on some bloodrunner 2 blades. i will never look back. the last deer i shot went 40 yards and had a massive blood trail
sticking with NAP 2-blade bloodrunners. due to their accuracy as a spring loaded BH and the damage they do, the deer won't go far at all. I like them because if they fail to fully open at 2 1/16 cutting diameter you will still have good impact at over an inch, other BH's like rage that are mechanical, if they fail like they have done to me in the past will not put a good hit on a deer.
has anyone here tried the aussie blackstumps?they are relativly cheaps about $48 aus for a 6 pack. They fly just like a field point and they are a solid fixed 2 blade broadhead. They come in 100gr,125,and now the new 200 gr cape yorker with a 1,1/2 inch cutting diametre. They sharpen up real god on a file and steel and will hold a good edge for 2-3 even more kills. I was using a 72 pound martin cheetah shooting easton powerflight 340s tipped with the 125gr vented blackstump and have managed complete pass throughs on all deer fallow and reds reds over here are about 500kg live weight,They are brilliant on all game in aus such as pigs and water buffalo. If your after quaility heads for good money you cant beat them i have managed to kill 5 deer with the same broadhead even after hitting rocks/trees after pass thrus.
Rage 2 blades again this year, I had good luck with them last year. I shot a doe that didn't go but 40 yards
Why are some choosing the 2-blade rage over the 3-blade rage? Any broad head will crush a deer if the shot is good. I would really like hear, and see pics, about shots that were not great, but still killed the deer and left a nice trail.
