The trick is that you'll get slightly bigger entry holes if you actually flatten the tip of the head a bit. So instead of the head beginning to cut immediately on contact, it will stretch the hide inward a bit before the blades start cutting. When it does this is creates a bigger entry would and better blood trails. So while cosmetically it may not seem like you want the end of your broadhead to be flat, it makes sense. For most people using high KE setups on whitetail size game you shouldn't have any problem with pass throughs using this setup. Enjoy! Also - the Spitfire Edge blades will work on the Spitfire Maxx ferrule. So you can have the serrated blades along with the cut-on-contact tip.
1" Slick Trick Standards , pretty much all i used for years with deadly results , i have no reason to change .
Rage 2Blade 100grn and.........................? I have been using Slick Trick Mags and they have been a pretty good head but the NAP HellRazors look like a solid head to me along with G5 Montecs....? Just not sure yet?
NAP Spirtfire Ill be trying out the spitfire this season. I've heard a lot about them opening during flight but also a lot of goof good things. I guess we'll see if I can put it in the boiler room.
Honestly, I've never heard a single complaint about a Spitfire opening in flight. The locking system used to hold the blades in makes that virtually impossible, unless your blades aren't fully closed when you shoot. Regardless, I think you'll be very happy with them. I plan on shooting the 125 grain Spitfire Maxx for whitetails this fall. 1 3/4" cut.
Justin summed up the little trick nicely! File the tip just a little to lightly flatten it out just enough to take the sharp point off of the BH. Mike
Rage Broadheads I've had great luck, and poor luck with Rage(2blade/100). Awsome job on 2 turkeys. I've had mixed luck with deer. I'm colored blind. I have a very, very difficult time blood trailing a deer. I've shot deer, with a rage, and they died in my view. Last year I shot at a doe(20 Yards), that was standing perfectely broadside. I also use luma nocs, and I watched my dissapear through the boiler room, and stuck in the leaves. I couldn't ask for a better situation. I just knew that this doe was dead within 100 yards from my stand. I goy out of my stand and looked at my bloodsoaked arrow. I knew that this deer was dead, I only found a very small amout of blood. I had to go back to camp and get a tracker to help me. We never found this deer. I don't know what happened. I've shot enough deer to know when I've made a good hit.
NAP Nightmares for my August black bear hunt. For whitetails I will have nightmares, spitfire maxx, and 2 blade bloodrunners in the quiver at sometime throughout the season. I am really liking the nightmares though, perfect flight out to fifty yards, 1 1/4 cutting diameter, and a trophy tip. Combine that with offset blades, a super strong ferrule, and razor sharp blades, and there is not much to dislike on them. I have a feeling they will be very deadly this fall!
Uhh....NAP hasn't made the Nightmare in a good 3-4 years. Do you mean the Thunderhead Edge by chance?
No, I'm sure they are the Nightmares. They are still listed on their website Justin and I ordered a pack about 4 weeks ago from the website. I also picked up another pack from my local bowshop last week. If they have stopped making them thats news to me. I really like the head though, they are virtually the same as the thunderhead razor, just a couple minor differences. So are you sure they have been discountinued??? Were there problems with them??? If they have stopped making them I'm going to go buy the other three packs that the local bowshop had on their shelves.
Not sure if they are still making the Nightmare or not. I am thinking about trying NAP's 150 grain Razorcaps on my recurve this year and see what happens.
