Plain and simple... Just state which broad head you are using this year. If it's not the same BH as last year tell us why.
Muzzy 100gr 3-blade. Same since about '98. Adding 100gr brass inserts this year for more Momentum (First Elk hunt this year).
The G5 Montec CS 100 grain, used it last year and was happy with the results and see no reason to change. This will actually be my 3rd season with the G5 Montec line. I switched last year to the CS because of concern with the sharpness of the original Montec. I have been real happy with the CS.
NAP thunderhead 125 Last year I didn’t use T-heads for the 1st tim sine ’98 and went with Magnus Stingers. A fine head, but I will return to my thunderheads and not look back.
been using muzzy mx-4's last 2 years, but this year I'm gonna try the new NAP bloodrunner 2-blades. they look awesome and after watching some footage of them very deadly. I like that the nap's are spring loaded, i've shot the rage 2 blades before and wasn't too impressed, maybe it was just my experience with them.
Magnus Stinger 4 Blade 125 grain. Was using G5 Strikers last year. I wanted more cutting diameter and thicker blades which hopefully will equate to more durability. The Magunus heads have a lifetime warranty and are much cheaper as well. The Strikers are way over priced IMO for just an average head. I am curious about Rybo's statement about the Thunderheads. I was either going to use Thunderheads or the Magnus and decided on the Magnus. Rybo, what do you like better about the Thunderheads? Details please.
Bloodrunner 2 Blade, Spitfire Maxx, Nitron. I'll have all three in my quiver at some point this fall.
In all honesty, my choice to go back to T-heads has more to do with comfort level, “karma” & superstition than it does with actual head performance. And because of that, I would never make a recommendation against Stingers, I still feel they are a great head. Spin tested true every time, shot like lasers and are very sharp. The only minor drawback I encountered with them was the slight dinging of the tip just by going thru ribs or a shoulder blade.(easily remedied by their warranty) I’ve never had a T-head tip dull up on a bone, even if it was a spine or solid shoulder.
I plan on using the Muzzy 100 gr three blade, been thinking about the Wasp Jackhammer SST's though as well, we'll see.
If that is all I have to worry about is dinging by hitting a bone, and the deer is dead, I'm in pretty good shape. :D I fully understand the superstition factor. I think both are great heads. How was your blood trail with Stingers? 2 blade or 4 blade?
BloodRunner 2 and 3 blades. I switched to them at the end of last season. I'm pretty excited to see what they can do to a deer.
I will have my quiver is a mixed bag this year. I will still carry the Slick Trick Mags that I did last year, but I will also have the Bloodrunner 2 blade as well. To be honest, I am just curious about them more than anything.
Wensel Woodsman 150 grain. Going away from my Muzzy 3-blade 100 grains for the first time since 2004. The only reason for the switch is because I am using a recurve this year.
100 gr 2 blade Doe-double lung- ran 60 yds-average blood trail 125 gr 4 blade Elk-chest shot-terrible blood trail. Nothing 1st 125 yds, then drop by drop, hand and knees for 75-100 yds, then poof, nothing. Lost bull Doe-Odd angle single lung/gut, sparse but followable trail, especially considering shot placement. Ran 100-125 yds. Doe-heart shot-ran 70-80 yds-buckets Buck-double lung only went 20-25 yds-trail not needed and a rare instance that I still didn’t bother to assess the trail.
