Trying something new this year and going with the G5 Deadmeat's that I got as a recommendation from LAS - they are flying great out to distance, so no complaints from me right now.
QAD exodus and Serv 1.5. Same setup as last year and leaning more on the QAD exodus. I have been shooting both for a couple months at the 3D targets and the QAD seem to be really hitting where I want them. Feeling confident.
Have you looked at tbe sevr 1.5 hybrids? I think the added bleeder blade will greatly improve the already great head
After having vertical bow killed 389 whitetails, 1 mule deer, and 1 Elk (see Avatar), I think it safe to say I have experience with broadheads. And MANY DIFFERENT broadheads. Last deer season, 2024-25, I set my own PB record of 25 whitetails in a single season. My broadhead of choice? Magnus. I have taken over 200 deer, one Elk, and a muley with Magnus. I started shooting these when Magnus was still in a garage. I shot Stingers 100 grain 4 blade and also tried the Buzz cuts. I found the Buzzcuts to be a little weker than Stingers in the main blade but still very effictive. After killing several deer with both styles I determined the only problem with the heads was the blood trail. I was a bit lacking as both entrance and exit holes were relatively small. So I contacted Mike Sohm at Magnus and he told me they had come up with another head that he would send me to try. I wasn't affiliated with Magnus in any way but he sent me a couple packs anyway. Blood trail problem SOLVED. Blood flow on bt EXCELLENT! I'm talking lift up your pant legs and step to the side! HORROR SHOW! I didn't see a need to be affiliated with Magnus because this company will replace ANYONES broadhead at any time for ANY reason. Bent, dull, broken, you name it. Broadhead for broadhead. GUARANTEED! At that time I was NOT re-sharpening my broadheads because, well, I didn't know how. And why would I? Magnus would send me a replacement for free if I sent it back. WHO DOES THAT? But then I found Stay Sharp broadhead sharpening system. WOW. So simple even a dummy can use it. AMAZING how many times I've used my Hornets to kill deer. I've had as many as SEVEN deer die with the same Magnus Black Hornet 100 grain 4 blade after using the STAY SHARP tool and some sandpaper. The reason I use this re-sharpener is I don't have to wait for the mail. Which is iffy anyway! And this sytem works really well, is super fast, and really EASY! And best of all...I can take a new head out of the package, kill a deer with it, then practice with it (which tells me how well it flies AFTER going through an animal). I've also used the Serrazors with great success. Neither head shows blade weakness. I now use both. I've killed deer with about every imaginable combination of arrow/bow/broadhead weights and styles. Mechanicals, single bevel. STOOPID expensive, CHEAP. HUGE 1.5 " 150 grain Rocky Mountain Supreme 3 blade fixed. 75 pound 30 % let off Jennings bow, and anywhere from 45-75 pound draw in the following: Parker, Whisper Creek, Bear, Hoyt, Ben Pearson, Elite, Diamond, and Bowtec to name a few of the bows with which I've killed deer. 600 grain to what I've found works best for me now...60 pounf 380 grain (finished) 260 fps tipped with Magnus. Full disclosure...I now am a field rep for Magnus. What does this get me over anyone else? ZIPPO...same guarantee. If the Magnus head is not performing flawlessly...sent it back for a free replacement. And the best part...These heads are very reasonably priced. THESE HEADS FLY WELL...AND KILL DEER. NUFF SAID!!!
I’ve been bowhunting for 40 years and never considered it about the numbers, but that’s just me. Who kills 25 whitetails in one season? What do you do with all them? I agree that Magnus is a fine company and great CS. Mike is a great guy. Started shooting Magnus after Bill Krenz did a write up on them 30 years ago. I’m alway tinkering with heads and there’s some out there that are just as good and some that are better for one reason or another. Shoot what you have confidence in and make your best shot.
I once killed 26 deer in a single season. Used a big wood chipper to grind them up to make scrapple. I left the fur on and most of the broken broadhead blades inside of them. I like a little surprise in my breakfast.
