My son will be hunting with his new bow set around 35 to 40 pounds. What type of broadhead would you recommend. I'm thinking of a cut on contact but still curious for other opinions. Also, what broadhead weight would you shoot?

I'd shoot a 2 blade, cut on contact head.....probably 100gr. (if you can find one in that weight).

    Good luck.

Muzzy Phantom with a bleeder would probably work well. They come in different weights 100, 125, 220 grain. The bleeder is 20 grains so you have more adjustability if you want to remove that.

I'd go with something heavy in a 2 blade. Since you don't have the KE from draw weight you need to make it up with heavy arrow weight. Be thinking along the lines of a traditional arrow. Something like the Black Stump, Muzzy Phantom, STOS or Zwikey Eskilite. If you can afford them the German Kinetics and Ashby heads are great but man are they spendy!

Thanks, what do you think about the magnus stinger. They have the 2 blade 100 and the 4 blade 125. I've never used them but I've heard good things about 'em.

    I shoot 40 lbs. I use a 125 grain muzzy 3 blade.

It won't blow through dense bone... but a 2 blade out a low poundage bow isn't going to either.

I have shot 2 blade COC heads but didn't find them to be much better penetration wise and I like having that third blade for better bleed out and blood trails.

They are great heads. So are the regular Magnus 2 blade. Either would be an excellent choice for low poundages. There are others as well, as mentioned. My personal choice would be a 2 blade over a 3 or 4.

Rage came out with the 2-blade 40KE heads.. They are designed for bows shooting <40lbs... Not sure how you feel about mechanicals... I haven't been too impressed with my Rage's and I shoot them at about 64lbs...
