Great morning for us here. We had hoped to sneak up on a hill top that is known for lots of deer sightings. Actually it was the first place I ever took Britney to for her first scouting adventure a few years ago.

Britney was after her first doe with the youth season ending tonight. We thought it would be cool if she killed her first deer on the hill with the past history of it. Well the hill lived up to it's repetation but the only thing is... we couldn't sit there. In the moon light I could make out deer on it already. We decided to sit at the end of a nearby shelterbelt and see if the deer would trickle down to us.

    Britty's ambush spot...

Like I said it was a great morning !! We watched young bucks sparing on the hill. A couple doe and their fawns feed on it. We watched a bald eagle fly right over the deer. Just a great morning !! They finally moved off but then the fog rolled in. Lucky for us it didn't last long and cleared off enough to see about a 70 yards out.

I was starting to wonder if a doe would come our way when Britney whispered... " Doe !! ". I was in a bad spot and couldn't see in the direction Brit was looking. I peeked around her and there was a doe walking 35 yards away coming out of a low spot. She was heading right at us and then angled broadside once she got about 25 yards away. At 20 yards Britney got the shot she wanted and took it.

The doe made it 65 yards and went down. The smile on Brit's face was priceless.

Here's Brit and her first deer...

I had to chuckle when this picture loaded on the computer. Here is one for the smile police.

    Congratulations on a wonderful day!

It is good that there is someone in your family that can get the freezer loaded. Hopefully you payed attention to your daughter and what she did so that you can get a deer this year. :poke:

I was suppose to be paying attention ?? Thankfully she still has a bow tag... I will pay attention then. I just don't know if you can teach an old dog new tricks. :p

She is determined that all of this deer is going to be made into jerky after I failed last year.
