I hit small buck in the brisket a few weeks back. We initially started to track him about an hour after the shot (I thought shot was much better at first). Followed decent blood trail for about 40 yards (some real good blood in couple spots where he stopped) but then it got really sparse. Then nothing. After a few calls and examining the arrow we decided it was a brisket shot and we backed out. We went back the next day but no luck. My question is - Are brisket shots usually fatal? We have not seen him on any of our cams the past 3 weeks. I am hoping he survived and our paths will cross again. Does anyone have much experience with a brisket shot? Thanks
My buddy had a shot like that this fall...tracked blood, then nothing. He had a pic of this deer just a couyple of weeks ago, no worse for the wear. I would also agree that it non fatal. They are tough!
My neighbors son shot a buck with a gun and hit it on the brisket. Believe or not the buck only went 25 yards and dropped. After cleaning the deer we found out he hit it on a main artery.
Depends if you clipped him in a good spot. I have had fellow hunters have this happen and found the deer dead months after the shot.
Is this close enough?? I think I got pretty lucky. Arrow went through chest and hit far front leg, broke my arrow, had to wait till I butchered him to get my broad head back. Hope this helps.
