They would of been better with the players calling their own fouls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sorry gary but the trophy is staying in the state of ky. I didn't think they would be beat after ware getting hurt. Good teams with something to play for are hard to beat. sent from my samsung note 2
That was a great game. The officials were horrible and let way too much go, then calling clean blocks as fouls. Louisville's pressure just ended up wearing them down.
That's what I thought also, and mi made freshman mistakes down the stretch. They got every loose ball, rebound. Simply just got out played on the post.
That was a great game. Some questionable calls on both sides, but at least they were consistent. Siva was balling out in the 2nd half. I thought Russ Smith was trying to give Michigan the game there for a while.
They went a little past letting them play. Louisville got away with murder in the second half. But that is their MO really, pressure D leads to a lot of fouls. If the refs swallow their whistles you just gotta tough through it. I hate Louisville, but it does make for a pretty cool story line for the Commonwealth. 2011 D2 Champs Bellarmine 2012 D1 Champs Kentucky 2013 D1 Champs Louisville 2013 NAIA Champs Georgetown Dominating basketball on every level, and they start the season out next year UK #1 UofL #2 (I realize preseason rankings don't mean much...but UK will be a special team next year mark it down). I wanted Michigan to pull that one out so bad, but as soon as Luke went off for 14 straight points to take the lead before half, I knew the Cards had the game won.
I'm fine with letting the players play, but that game got butchered. For the most part, it was pretty bad both ways in the first half. The second half they let Louisville get away with murder like Trevor said. And when you are known as a "physical" team, you get away with that stuff. Russ Smith could have fouled out in 10 seconds if they wanted to call fouls. I won't blame the refs for the loss. Beilein got out-couched in the second half. I do believe the refs altered the game, not the outcome necessarily, but how the game had to be played. The garbage call on Burke to give him his second foul all but forced him to sit 1/4 of the game. Sure Albrecht came in and played out of his mind, but he doesn't really get others going like Burke does. You could see that play out in the second half. Guys couldn't get into the game because they really hadn't yet. Then the easy call on Hancock's with just under 10 to go would have given him his fourth foul, and sent him to the bench. Instead they blatantly gave it to a nobody and Hancock was vital in Louisville taking control of the game over the next few minutes. Those two calls were huge in that game. NCAA officiating is awful, in both football and basketball. Too many times poor officiating is affecting how the game plays out. I was bummed to see what could have been a really good game to watch, that was overshadowed by terrible officiating...for both sides.
Michigan's coach butchered the clock management the last minute. And I saw just as many blatant fouls on Michigan down low as I saw on the Louisville guards. And Burke was a flopping little b**** most of the time when the guards played him tight.
I pretty much agree with this. There were a couple instance where it seemed like there were 3 or 4 fouls on a possession that didn't get called. I understand letting them play, I'm all for that, but when I team starts taking advantage and gaining an advantage due to the loose calls, that's when I have an issue. That's exactly what happened, the refs allowed Ville to gain an advantage.
I agree that it was way beyond letting them play. It was street ball without refs for the most part. If NCAA is going to do that, why not start recruiting linemen to clear the lane for the shooting guards? That was not basketball in my opinion. It was a brawl interrupted by brief moments of sport. I dont know that it gave an advantage either way, but my guess is that Michigan may have stood a better chance in a game where fouls were actually called. I would have enjoyed watching a basketball game last night. Instead, I saw what amounted to a reward challenge on Survivor...no holds barred.
The physical play down low was both ways. Louisville did a lot of pushing to get offensive rebounds, and then the refs let UM's players push back. The grabbing and holding, especially the grab-and-reach that Louisville is taught to use, was constant. I agree Beilein got out-coached, and did a terrible job down the stretch. Its not the first time thats happened this year. He's a good coach before the tip, but afterward, not so much. Even if I wasn't a fan of either team, I would think that game was butchered. All over the interwebs last night college bball fans were talking about how awful the officiating was. And not just fans of either team. It was bizarre game to watch.
I'm not a fan of either team, so I can agree with the takes above. The refs allowing Louisville to play Louisville ball in the second half allowed them to get rolling as Michigan wasn't used to the football style of play. That said, Rick Pitino did a masterful job of outcoaching Belien with his well placed timeouts to stomp out momentum, and down the stretch clock management. Talent wise I think the teams are very close with maybe a slight edge given to Michigan, Coaching wise it isn't a contest.
I felt like shiva got away with way too much in the second half. He just about raped burke in that full court press every time down the floor. That being said I dont think it effected the outcome. What lost michigan the game was burke forcing to many bad shots in the second and the dumb turnovers. Sent from my SGH-T959 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
