Sorry I didn't share this story earlier but hopefully have the kinks worked out with picture posting. This year I have been hunting a piece of land that is a tree nursery with alot of open ground. We had 7 stands and 6 trail cameras up for most of the season. We had numerous pictures of really good sized bucks all coming in at night. Around the first week of November, I had 6 bucks come through in a two hour period with no shot. Then came the dry spell. Every sit was with hope and came up empty. Don't get me wrong, I did have an opportunity at a couple of bucks but they were way too small. That being said, we never gave up and hunted the property until the very end. On January 9th I sat over a cut corn field. At 4:30pm 8 does started to funnel in at 110 yards. I went ahead and stood up in the stand and kept ranging them. As soon as they reached the 60 yard mark, I set my pin at 40 yards and waited for them to come in. One of the does stared over in my direction and did the dreaded stomp. How could I have 8 deer come in after all the work we put in and NOW I am going to get busted. WHAT! She put them all on alert. After about 15 minutes they calmed down and I drew back. Finally, we broke the ice at this property! Not alot of blood for traking but she went about 75 yards into the nursery and expired. What a true reward for the time and effort we put into this season. Can't wait for the next to begin!
yeah a lot of phone calls began with, "we saw nothing..." and ended with, "we'll try again next time!" yall will figure it out im sure and then put me on stand and i'll shoot your biggest buck out there! ha just kidding! just gonna take a while to pattern the movement and react to what is planted each year. great doe im sure she'll eat good!
