    Gentlemen,

im new to archery hunting so I'm fairly green about what to ask veteran hunters. I will be moving to a different state soon and I want to know if it is wrong to ask the advice of the veteran hunters about how to spot locations for deer (or any other animal) hunting? not only because I'm new to the sport but I'll be new to the area. I'm really eager to learn but I don't want to cross a line.

    Thank you!

I would say ask any question you like. If you get too specific, they will tell you they would prefer to not talk about that. I never ask too detailed a question, like "exactly which tree were you in when you shot that deer?" Because I like figuring it all out. But a few questions could definitely curb your learning curve in a new state.

As long as you are sincere and ask politely, you should find plenty of guys willing to help.
Ask here and you'll get some good answers here.

If I'm not wrong I believe there are a bunch of veteran hunters right here. Let us know what state and I'm sure someone here will step up.

Just don't ask them where they hunt with a GPS in hand..... lol. I don't know a single hunter that isn't willing to help.

3 ways to learn: 1) Experience. Go out and learn the hard way. That's honestly the fun part. However doing that alone can lead to frustration. So here's the next-2) Ask veteran hunters questions or better yet see if they'll take you out one time. I had a guy take me turkey hunting last year who's completed a US grand slam...I learned a ton that day. 3) Read as much as you can. I just joined this site and in one week have gained a lot of head knowledge. I also read and cut out the good articles in Field & Stream.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. 2 & 3 will help you make less mistakes in 1.

I am always eager to spread my knowledge with a new guy. Shoot, I met a guy on some public land this year that had never hunted there before, and knew nothing about it. I took him right to my favorite tree and he shot a deer out of it. He happened to be a nice guy and never hunted it again (that I'm aware of). It doesn't always have to be about competition. There are always more deer, and more good spots. I would think most people would be eager to help. I love helping people kill deer as much as I like shooting them myself.

That's good, I don't want deer that can climb trees breeding and spreading that tree climbing gene...that's crazy.

The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. I'm sure most folks will be willing to help if they can and if they can't they'll give you an answer of some sort, lol. Perhaps a couple of poor questions to ask might be something like these:
    1. Which spotlight works best to shine fields and shoot deer under?
    2. Which deer farm has the smallest paddocks that are easy to shoot across?
    3. My local PETA chapter is hosting a cake walk for charity, which of you guys can I jot down for pledges?
    4. Why do all (insert name brand bow here) bows suck?
    5. Help, I shot a buck this morning before daylight with a rage and I can't find it...what did I do wrong?!

Other than giving a few individuals on here a hard time occasionally I believe this is a great place to ask anyone for help. The unbelievable experience and wealth of knowledge on here is unparalleled.
