I planted some brasiccas about 10 days ago. I had 4 hours of light rain the day after I planted and nothing since. There has been very little germination as of yet, am I in trouble? Is it possible the little rain I had started the germination process and now everything is dried up and dead because of the dry weather or will the seeds stay dormant until we get some rain?

I have a 40% chance of rain on Wednesday and nothing but warming temperature expected after that.

First plot, I'm sure that I am worrying too much.

No worries. I planted 12 acres on 8/10. No rain since. Winter rye, ptt, radish, rape. Got germination as the soil is still moist an inch down. We will get rain the next few days, the seed will be fine.

You should be fine. Last year I planted a bunch of brassicas and had very little rain. They still came up.

Thanks for the confidence booster guys.

DCthebowhunter, If they grew for you last year then I am not worried. It was like a desert around here last year :)

7 to 14 days to germinate usually depending on moisture. So I'd say you are still ok.

I was considering watering the plot with my 50 gallon sprayer but the last thing in the tank was ground clear to kill off weeds in our gravel road. Was worried even with a good cleaning that I might do more harm than good.

Farm supply stores and co-ops usually sell a product called, "neutralizer", it's a white powder in a plastic jar...it'll neutralize your poly tank so you can use it for anything except potable water...fine for watering plants. Just be sure to wash it out completely with neutralizer and then rinse it very well.

I would be concerned, a light shower and this long you should be seeing something. I'd give it another week and then make a decision. Sometimes they just take a while but the seed may have been old or germ started and ran out of moisture...or it may go ahead and fill in..time will tell.
