First off I would like to say that I'm brand new to the site, shooting a bow, and hunting in general. I am an avid bass fisherman and have never had the itch untill this year to hunt. Just got myself set up and started shooting yesterday. I am hooked already. Now for my story.....

My buddy who has been hunting for 6 or 7 years was out with me at my property that i own shooting our bows and scouting the new area. Its about 14 acres with about 12 of them being standing corn. There is as my friend called it, 2 main "Deer highways". Not really any good trees for a stand so he decided that for our hunt tomorrow we are going to hunt from his 2 man ground blind.

Well he and I walked the corn field just to see what we were working with. Within 25 yards from were we parked we saw a nice fresh rub on a small tree, things were starting in the right directon :D About 10 mins later we cut across a few lane of corn to reach the opening and we look back to see a nice 8 point; he grunted and ran away with his girl friend following right behind him. I was getting really excited about tomorrow. He and I got back to where we parked and starting shooting to get the pins sighted on my bow.

We shot for about an hour and a half and I was able to get bunches of 3 in a a 3 inch area at 30 yards. For shins and grins i asked him if he wanted to go around once more but go the opposite way, and we should get broadheads ready. He laughed and said thats fine but he left his bow thinking nothing of it. Well about 100 yards into the 2nd pass around, he tells me to stop. I do and look up and see a buck (which he later said was atleast an 8) walking in from the field next to the corn field. So i dont really know what to do so i duck down like he did, he then tells me, to stand up and draw back. I do and the buck is about 25 yards away broadside, I mean it was a lay up for anyone who has shot before. Well i missed low and he runs off, i was in shock, i had the shakes and he was just laughing at me. He said if i would have killed him, he would never hunt with me again. Now that shot is all i can think about and i am so anxious to go out again in the morning to see what we can do.

Thanks for all the info you all provide and all the great stories, ill keep you all informed about tomorrow.
