I’m brand new to bow hunting and looking for advice on my first bow. Can I go the used route? What are things I absolutely need and things I can get later on. What should I be on the lookout for and how much should I expect to spend. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance.

What is your budget? You will need a sight, rest, arrows, stabilizer, release, etc. A package like this one is popular with beginner archers. Bradco Outdoors

Go to a pro shop and get measured first. Then figure which is your dominant eye.
Once you know that they can help you figure out what you can get in your budget range.
The major advantage to buying new is that YOU get the life time warranty on most bows out there.
Used can work just great if you know exactly what you want, need, and what it is.

My advice would be to Get a Tag! Bows are really personal and hold many factors when making your selection. I shoot Mathews and am the original owner of a 2013 MR5. I choose these:
    Easton Axis 340s
    Slick Trick 100 Broadheads
    Blazer Vanes
    AZ EZFletch
    Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg Site
    QAD Ultra Rest
    Stokerized SS1
    Tru Fire Release with Buckle
New Limbsaver Style Split Limb Dampeners
    Vortex Range Finder
    Badlands Clutch Pack
    Sitka Camo
Icebreaker and First Lite Merino Gear
    Outdoor Edge Butcher Lite Set
    Alaska Game Bags
Cold weather Sleeping Bag, pad, and Tent
Enjoy the Ride and Good Luck!

    Jack,
You can most definitely go the used route. You dont have to have the best and newest to have fun with archery equipment and you can always pimp it over time. If you have an archery shop near by go and shoot as many bows as you can till you find one you like. Let them know what your budget is and they should have some recommendations. Once you find a bow you like check out the classifieds here and on archery talk. You can even post what you are looking for here and your price range and I m sure someone one will have an idea of where you can find one. If you have any problems finding something PM me and I will do what I can to help you find what you need. If you have any questions ask away.

The best of both worlds would be to find a used bow at a pro shop. That way you are not paying new bow prices, but still have the shop to measure you, set the bow up for you, and help you get started shooting.

For me the big thing about new vs. used - is are you going to stick with it? If this is something that you are going to do often (not just a trial) and you have the money, IMO buy new. It will last longer. Like others say, sometimes you don't know exactly what the used bow has been through.

Others have told you things you need. But another, not listed...patience! This sport is one you can't rush, so just be patient!

    Best of luck!
