I'm not sure I buy that deer cannot see the glow of an IR camera. I have had hundreds of deer spook or staring at the camera.
I think one thing to take into consideration is where and how you setting up the camera. My camera is placed at a feeding station, a high traffic area with human activity every day. I can understand why a trail camera in certain ares would certainly impact deer traffic.
I'm not sure I agree with the deer "not" being able to see the IR glow either. We use our Spypoint cameras on video mode more than on picture mode. We have to place them where the deer hopefully won't be looking due to the deer not liking the red glow when the video is being captured. The deer will walk away during the video of they see the glow. Every time. The other cameras we use are the RECONYX HC600 NO GLOW. We have deer looking at them but have never had the deer spook from these cameras at all. No noise no flash/light.
Nonsense. C'mon Greg, it's obvious that your woods are haunted, BigTime! The OP is also referring to video. Big difference between photos and videos with IR, though many deer won't even tolerate photo mode. I don't have any "blackout" cams, so I won't even run any cams in video mode.
I know, FEB... you can lead a horse to water... It's not "the camera starting up" or the fact "a box is on the tree"... Video after video with blackout cameras and they casually look over and go about their business. Video after video of deer looking over and seeing the red glow: Gone. Do I have videos of some sticking around? Sure! But, like I said... it only takes messing up that ONE big buck which WOULD have walked by your stand... It's pretty damn hard to refute years of video evidence -- though apparently some are willing to try, LOL.
