SO i got a string for one of my bows, and The bow measured out to 68" long string groove to string groove
I got a 64" long string, and it seems like i could have went 4" shorter, i have twisted the heck outta the thing, and it still has a 6" brace height.
Any thoughts? Are there exceptions to the 4" rule with recurves?

Live, are you sure you are twisting the string the right way? I am not trying to be funny. I use the four inch rule and purchase 56 inch strings with my 60 inch recurve.

Something don't sound right here. When you twist It, It has to shorten up the string which will then Increase the BH. What's the bow manufacturer recommend for BH? Gotta be In that 8.5 to 9 Inch range one would think.

While you're contacting the bowyer, see what he recommends for string length.

that would be all well and good, except i am fairly sure he is not alive.
the bow is one i got that was kinda under the weather, i rehabbed it, its beautiful,
but it needs some string love
the limbs are straight, with no cracks or twists

bow is really really long, 68" actually
put on a 64" string and the brace height was 5"
I remeasured 4 times, just to assure myself i wasnt crazy. Added a bunch of twists and got to about 6" really wanted to have it done as a gift to my dad by christmas >_<
o well better late then never

So....you measured the bow unstrung, then built the string?

The 4 inch rule apply's to the amo length written on the bow.. not the way you measured it. On a recurve that long I guess a 7 1/2 inch brace height would be very close to correct.

thats wha i was figureing, i was using Dale Karch of three rivers method of determining AMO as seen in this video
i tried this on all 3 of my other bows, and it is generally within 1/4" and subtracting 4" has gotten me the right string length, The difference being, it wasnt a guess on those bows, as they had the AMO written on them. My measurement was = to amo on those bows. So i (apparently inaccuratley) assumed that this would work on this bow, which had none of this info written on it.
I guess this is a good excuse to build a string jig

throat of the grip to the string. i will take a picture of it. it would be brutal to shoot.
i need to take pictures anyway, its the end of my project thread and it really turned out pretty nice
