and there are a few on here that can attest to this. Tonight, on my way to the store, I saw a farmer along the road washing his antique tractor. I stopped, introduced myself and complimented his Oliver 77. We shot the breeze a little and the next thing I knew, he gave me sole hunting rights to his 640 acres. Most of the land is corn and soybeans, but there is a 150' wide draw up the middle with a pond and oak grove at the top of the draw. Even if I do sell my property, I have another place to hunt!!!!
I shot the **** with a guy for forty minutes and after talking with the guy about all his hunting luck over the years, he shied away from talking about letting me bowhunt even for does. Nice enough guy, just no luck with the land. Gotta figure out how you sweet talk them Iowa.
Ancient Korean secret.....Fortunately, I married an ancient Korean! I stopped, complimented his tractor. He asked if I wanted to see his other antique tractors and I did. I had no intention of asking when I stopped, he just had a very nice looking tractor out and was taking good care of it. I shot the breeze about living in the country vs city, what he does for a living, how long he had been restoring tractors, etc. A doe ran across the bean field in back and the conversation shifted to hunting. He doesn't hunt (I made mental note). He likes venison jerky and deer sticks (another mental note). He rents the tillable land out (and the tenant shows up). I quietly stand by while they discuss business. Owner tells tenant that I am a retired airman who likes to hunt and the tenant says "kill them all, they're eating my profits!" At this point, I see a chance for new hunting land. I tell him I can't kill any more than what I have tags for and can't hunt anywhere I don't have permission. BAM! Done deal and I end up with sole rights.
