I shoot my bow just about every day for 20 minutes and I was wondering how often I should wax the string and what the best wax is.

I switched to Scorpion Venom and have never looked back. Its a lubricant. They also have a great wax if you are set on that. It's softer than most waxes and much easier to work in.

At 20 min a day, I would give it a shot maybe once a week at that.

I probably only shoot 25 times within 20 minutes and my bows only 45# but I'm somewhat new to archery so if you think I shouldn't shoot that much I should probably take your advice.

Not sure I follow you however I'll clarify my statement.

"I would give it a shot maybe once a week at that." That means apply a little bit once a week if that.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about shooting once a week but thanks for the info.

I'll second the scorpion venom. Great stuff....really soaks into the string. It costs a little more than your typical waxes but it is worth the investment.

Once a month or so should be fine. As far as wax goes, scorpion venom or regular ol' bees wax are great.

I used Bohning Tex-Tite for years with no issues. I just thought I would try something else. I tried the Scorpion Venom but it seemed like it did not last long and I was reapplying all the time. Two years now I have been using X-Wax from BCY and very I'm happy with it. BCY make the fibers so I thought they should know.

Gonna have to give that Scorpion Venom a try. Just looked it up on the website and no dealers anywhere even close to me.

Scorpian Venom here too. A tube will last a year even if you shoot quite a bit.

I picked up some black lightning wax at cabelas in wichita this weekend. It seemed really soft and worked into the string nicely. I'll know more after shooting all summer.

You could do like a buddy of mine. He only seems to max up his string once right befor the season starts and then once before he puts the bow away. Might be why I am always changing his strings.

Most factory strings probably have enough wax to last a year.:what:

I only wax custom strings about once a month if im shooting alot. Usually no where near that much. Exception would be if im hunting in bad weather.

If you can still feel the wax, no need to reapply. This will just create build up.

Just choose a high quality wax. I use Daltons and haven't had the need to switch. I've had the same container for several years now.

I've been using the Scorpion Venom as well. Great stuff.

If you're using a wax, make sure you strip off the old wax before you apply the new. The old was attracts all kinds of dirt and dust. Take a length of serving thread, wrap it once around the string and pull the ends snug. Then slide it up and down the string. You'll be amazed at the how much old wax and crud comes off your string. Then apply the new, clean wax.

Neither really. It's a liquid with a sponge type applicator.

X-wax is also good. I also have used Scorpian Venom, another good wax. Go to Bowhunter Superstore can get both at a great price.
