Experience has taught me some very important lesson about being a hunter with a new knee replacement. First of all, being a lifelong hunter, I waited until I could hardly walk before I had my knee replaced. Since then, it's been a blessing and a curse. I can easily walk again, too an extent. It takes about a year to heal from your knee replacement. What they don't tell you is, it will take an additional year for your knee and hip to become in sink so you can walk more than a hundred yards for your hip to stop hurting from walking. This is the second half of healing. So, basically, you're out of the hunting game for two years. Even then, you are limited on the terrain and distance you are able to hunt. Oh, you can still hunt, but you'll have to rethink your approach. Nevertheless, I remember how I could hardly walk before so my knee replacement has been a blessing.
Had a knee replacement, December 2024. Yes, it took a year to heal but still can get a bit uncomfortable if I stand on it too long. Never had problems with the hip. I have no problem walking. Gave up running centuries ago. Can't see running unless someone is chasing me. Told the wife that I would like to get back hunting this year. Need to scout some for turkey season which is just around the corner.
