I got a question for you guys and need some opinions. Me and a buddy are hunting in a area where there are a good amount of hunters. We have had our stands up from a month ago to a couple weeks ago. When i went in today to check the trail cameras 2 of the stands have other stands within 25 yards of mine. First of all who does that seeing another stand that close and why would you want to be that close to another hunter. Should I just take them down or put a explicit note on it im not sure what to do...Im pissed took alot of time and scouting to put them up. Just no hunting etiquette out there. What do you think?

Is this private or public land?

Wow, if you touch someone else's stand, you're apt to start a war. If you're on public land, nothing you can do. If you're on private land, talk with the landowner. You either put a stand where someone else has hunted for a long time or they think if it's a good spot for you, it should be a good spot for them too.

Some people are just idiots and have no conscience or common courtesy...they were just too damn lazy to do the foot work and scout the area for themselves. I see your from mass...I'm am as well...and who ever did that is a good ole...ignorant m*******. But like Iowa Veteran said...if its public land theres not much you can do other than hope people can learn proper etiquette.

Here in Pa, you have to take your stand out of the woods each day on public land. Leaving a stand denotes "staking your claim", and that only leads to conflict. But, if you're hunting public land, it's first come, first served. I go a little further in on public land to avoid other hunters, so I don't have problems like that.
I've seen ladder stands erected on the state land I hunt. They're usually not there long.

Its on about a 10 acre plot of private land surrounded by public land so usually every year hunters stumble on the land and try to hunt and if you talk to them they are usually cool and say sorry and leave...but in this case he defintely saw my stand and put one up anyway and i dont want to leave in a great area with plenty of deer!!!!

I live in NW Iowa and hunt all pubilc land, usually i dont have a problem with this, except for one area, there is a guy and his 2 sons that have hunted it since i started, first year i hunted it and my brother and i killed two really nice bucks off it, these guys would show up the last 45 min and walk through the trees and usually end, as close as 10 yards of our tree sometimes futher, first ime it happened i gave him a warning not to do it again, the second time he did it, it so happened that a 154" ten came walking up the trail, i practice alot and shoot league all summer long so i know what i can do if i have to, the deer came in stoppped at 47 yards and started licking a branch, i noticed the guys son getting ready for the buck to come buy, so i drew back and let out a big ass yell, i thought he was going to shoot me at first but then i reminded him that he got his first warning not to do it again. i figure that would hurt him worse than seeing me kill him where he stood, i think he knows that im not afraid to screw up my own hunt, to teach a little respect. Sorry so long.

Maybe next year bring a climber instead of blowing your spot.

If its on Private land I would make sure to lock my stand down and then leave a note letting them know they are on private property and the public land is X feet in X direction. I am very non-confrontational as I don't trust most people so I would do every thing I could to keep it friendly so they didn't go off the deep end and mess with my stuff or area.

When hunting on public land, I'll go as far as to rub dirt on fresh cuts I've made while clearing shooting lanes so other hunters won't notice. I don't like to broadcast where I set up. That's where the climbing stand comes in so well. It comes and goes with me. :tu:

Find another place to hunt. Or hunt in the middle of the day.

First I can't resist asking......how did you know it was a 154" deer? Did you later kill it? 2nd I have had a lot of confrontation turkey hunting public land, deer hunting on the other hand I think thats how some people scout....based on where others are hunting. Some people.......

You're lucky they didn't steal you're stand here in MA.I would leave a note and tell them they are on private property. If they don't leave well then I can't tell you what I would do. I plead the 5th.

ya no kidding ive met alot of hunters in mass that really dont care about anything but themselves and have no regard about other hunters. one guy that hunts in the area is a big drinker and you always know what tree he was in because you find a dozen bud light bottles under his tree. Another good story to tell you what your dealing with in mass is i was talking to the head of consevation in the town i am hunting in and he told me a story of 2 guys coming out of the woods from hunting. he asked if they had seen anything and one guy replied no but i took a sound shot. the officer asked him what that was and he told him he heard something in the brush under his stand and shot. are you kidding me theres guys out there that do that. that makes me feel real safe walking into my stands......

If your hunting the private land that butts up against public land, I would mark every tree on the border w. purple paint and add no trespassing signs as well. I would remove that persons stand from your private land, and leave a note that says you have removed his stand from your private property and to contact you to get the stand back. At that point, if he contacts you, you could have a conversation w. him about the property line and let him know that you do not allow others to hunt your land. Make him aware that you have informed him that he is not allowed to hunt on your side of the fence. One of two things will happen. 1. he will contact you, get his stand back. At least this way, you are going to get to know who was on your land. Or, 2. he won't have the guts to contact you and you will end up with another stand.

If it were on public land, I'd say it would just be tough Sh*t, your just going to have to deal with it.
