Hi all, I just got settled here in Maryland (Anne Arundel County) and was looking for some friendly veteran Md hunter advice and or property to hunt. I paid the $70 to hunt Patuxent and have been learning the land one Saturday at a time. I got a tip to go to Brown's bridge, but that didn't pan out. So, if there are any farmers out there or managed lands that just want to cull some deer within an hour to hour and a half drive from Crofton, let me know. I have a climber stand and I am more than willing to come cull your does or small bucks etc... Thanks for your time, True
Welcome to the forum! Its a bit of a drive for you, but I would consider Prettyboy, Liberty, and Loch Raven reservoirs they all are bow hunting only and combined have close to 20,000 huntable acres with plenty of big bucks if you do your homework right! All you need to hunt them is a permit which is in the back of 2011-2012 magazine. Aside from that finding private land to hunt in MD will be hard youll have to know some people or just knock on some doors!
Welcome to MD! I live in Howard county and hunt Patapsco or my lease in Frederick county. The management stamp is a great tool for a new to the area hunter. I've never heard of the place you mentioned, but I've had good luck off of Henryton Rd on the Howard county/Carroll county border. Also like lastoneout mentioned, it's a bit of a drive but Prettyboy and Liberty Reservoir are also very nice of its not too crowded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome to Md. I lived in AA county for many years and PG Co all my life before that. Very hard to find access there. I hunt a property in a semi residental area in Crownsville from time to time, hunting there Thursday evening as a matter of fact. I also hunt a Charles Co and an Eastern Shore property. Hunting the CC property Sunday. Where are you living in AA Co? I was in the Riva area. Area E is a good area on the Patuxent Wildlife refuge. I too paid the $70 or whatever it was along with my Grandchild's husband. He took a very nice 8 point out of area E and has seen deer everytime in there along with missing another buck there. I've only hunt it one time this year but maybe we can hook up one day and hunt it.
Lots of homework. You should also look into hunting some of the WMAs and CWMAs in your area. All you need to do is go to the office that manages the lands in your region and get the permit (free). Most of the areas require a daily reservation (call ahead up to 8 days in advance) and they limit the number of hunters per day. A few areas are archery only which is nice during the gun seasons. There's one WMA, and one CWMA within a 30 minute drive so i'll alternate between them or if I can't get a spot reserved at either one, i'll head up to prettyboy reservoir - about 45 mins away.
Wow, what a good response so quickly! @lastoneout and SMCtitan, Liberty is a haul, I drive kinda slow. But I will do some cyberscouting. @rickmur, I hunt the other side of Patuxent.. area S, but I would love to hook up and try some other areas. I live in Crofton, in AA. Thanks again for the responses, True

I work right out side of Fredrick MD and was able to score 500 acres not too far from here from someone i work with. Guess you have to just be lucky.
