In Ohio 40 lbs. of draw weight is out state minimum for deer hunting, could a 12 year old ( pretty strong ) pull that or up to 50 ? I would like to get him the Mission Craze Which he probably could shoot at his grandpa's and has a very flexible draw weight. It is also cheap enough for me to buy other stuff. For 40-45 lbs. of draw weight, what is the max. effective range in general ? I would Like to get a 3-D deer target for him to practice kill shots and a bag for him to use to group. For the 3-D target what broad heads would not destroy the target ? What about the bag target ? He has only shot his grandpa's old rescurve bow ( draw weight unknown, probably 40 lbs but not sure ) when he was much younger ( 8 or so ). When buying arrows you need the tips right ? How to you install them ? I called ***** Sporting Goods and they said they could trim it down to length, what does that mean ? Do certain arrows only fit certain bows ? Is it the other way around ?
the mission craze is a awesome bow if he can pull back 40 now he can shoot that bow untill he is a adult if he wants. it has alot of adjustability. my advice go to your local mathews dealer or pro shop and have them set him up they will measure and set the corect draw length and get him arrows (cut down, fletched, and inserts) and set his 20 yard pin they will let ya know what he needs to get started. with the targets they will say wether or not it will take broadheads and field tips. hope this helps!
A friend of mine wants to get one for him self he's almost 30 what's your thoughts on that. I gave him my opinion Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2
I have been shooting an x-force since new in 07. I love it!! I bought a mission craze last year and set it up for turkeys and as a blind/ground bow with lighter poundage and cut on contact heads. Its a great little bow and its very accurate as well. I'm a big guy and am in no way ashamed to say i hunt with a "kids" bow at times. It works. And fits perfectly into my arsonal of archery tricks and tactics!! I know several men who shoot these little bows and they all kill the same! Plus at 55lbs i can shoot all day with out the fatigue of my heavier hunting bow.
Ive tried out many mission bows at my local mathews dealer and id say theyre a great bow to get him into archery. As far as broadheads into targets theyre all going to do a number on any target eventually. If hes not hunting id get some field points to practice with and shoot the broadheads before you hunt, Most fixedblade broadheads are going to fly pretty similiar to a fieldpoint. Your local shop will be able to dial everything in for him as far as draw lenght and draw pounds, getting the peep set up and cutting arrows to length.
I went down to my local dealer and asked them about the craze. They said that is what they use as there rental bow because of the adjustability. They have people drop them all the time and haven't had one break yet. So for someone who is growing and you want a bow to grow with them, this is unbeatable. They did say that someone who isn't growing anymore they wouldn't recommend it just due to the fact that you loose a lot of performance because it is so flexible. You could also start him off at thirty for a month, move up to thirty five for another month and have him shooting at forty by season. Anyways hope that helps. Good luck and have fun with your son.
The craze is a great bow, but I would try the riot too. The riot 15-70 lb is a step up from the craze. Then the ballistic from the riot. The ballistic is a 50-70 lb draw weight.
My dad is 72 and just picked up a Mission Riot this past spring (I think it's like the brother to the Craze). He loves it. It's the first compound bow he's ever owned. He used to shoot recurves and hand crafted stick bows till he messed up his shoulder a few years back. He picked up a crossbow for a few years but when he rehabbed enough so that he could draw a compound at 45lbs he jumped at it. I've shot it several times. The grip is a little big for what I'm used to, but other than that its a really nice bow. IMO it's not a kids bow. It's simply a highly adjustable bow. -D
good to hear! i hope i can still shoot my compound at 70 years old and your right there is not a whole lot of difference in the craze and riot.
I bought the Mission Craze for my son last November year for his 13th birthday. I did a lot of research, and it was a great choice. He started shooting at 27 lbs, and we took the bow in to the shop every couple months to up the poundage and verify the draw length (kid grows like a weed). He now is shooting at 50 lbs. We have had to adjust arrow length twice and shaft flex once. This will be his first fall bowhunting deer, and we are excited.
