I find this explanation weak for two reasons. I infer from what you are saying that God cursed the child and his children. I do not believe God brings about the evil WE do. David had many wives, and one of his punishments for killing Uriah was all of his wives were given to other men. It would seem God saw the wives as a blessing. Still, it is clear God was aggravated at Abram's lack of faith. I think it is pretty clear the God of the Bible did not see polygamy in the same light we do.
