Hey folks, So I'm not new to bowhunting, I'm a junior in college and I've been bowhunting since I was in 8th grade. However, I would guess that only three or four of my 5,800 peers could tell the difference between a recurve and a compound. As a result I find myself a little devoid of strategical/tactical discussion. Around here the only hunting opportunities I have are big-woods and the occasional golf course. Not much like the farmland bordered by tree thickets that I'm used to back home. I've only had four days in the field so far, and have yet to see a thing. But given that the urban archery season lasts until the end of March around here, I'll be really surprised if I can't shake the skunk, hopefully sooner than later. Looks like a great forum John
Welcome to the site John! The big woods can be a tough nut to crack, but it'll teach you more about hunting deer than anything out there.
Welcome. Keep in mind urban archery is only on private land over 3 acres. Good Luck. Deer are moving pretty good here
Slugger, are you in the Hampton Roads area? There is one public plot of land here that allows archery only, and goes into the end of March, it's a specially-designated area and as far as I can tell it isn't widely known. PM me if you're interested or want more info. Fitz, I've definitely found the big woods to be difficult, mostly difficult to interpret sign with all the leaves around. I am beginning to learn to use them to my advantage. One more question, I do a lot of fly fishing and in those communities, the rule of thumb on small public waters is don't ask don't tell. Does the same generally apply around here? Or are people more willing to share local haunts?
