How many of you have taken a bowhunter ed course? I am from PA and they do not require the course but they do offer one online. I have been bowhunting for about 15 years and I decided to take it just to see what it was about. So far its just been extremely basic info, which I expected but it got me thinking about how many people have actually taken the course and if you did take it, were you required. It seems only a few states require the course.
I have taken it 3 times in person and once online. I took it with my nephews and daughters. It's nice to see what they are teaching.
Took it in 1990, I was 14. We had to pass a shooting test as well. I remember My mother driving me and picking me up after it was over.
I will also say, it would be a great tool for anyone that is coming into bowhunting or archery right from the start. I am lucky to have the mentors that I do, but without them the course would have been a tremendous resource.
Went thru BH ed many years back and helped out in several classes .. I was a Hunter Ed instructor for several years also ..
guess i was 30 when i took it, the class was pretty remedial but we got to shoot a decent amount at an indoor range and at 3d out of stands
Took it when i started hunting in Maryland in 2006. My neighbor just happened to be a training counselor whom convinced my parents to let me start hunting. so taking the hunters ed and bowhunter course was my way in to hunting. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to going back again and retaking any of the classes.
Took my class 40 years ago. Seemed to overlap a lot with hunter safety, but I do recall more focus on animal anatomy in our bowhunting course than our hunter safety class.
Idaho started requiring a bowhunter education course to be able to buy an archery permit in the late '80's I think. I had gotten an archery permit before they started this requirement, so I was "grandfathered" and didn't need to take the course. If my son ends up wanting to bow hunt then I plan on taking it with him just to check it out.
I took the very first bow hunter Ed class put on in Indiana (1993). Man I'm dating my self... The number on my Indiana NBEP Card is 000007. Always thought seven was a lucky number!
With last year's buck, luck had to have something to do with it. You can't kill line that without a little.
I agree, there was a lot more animal anatomy in this course that what I remember from general hunter safety.
