Tragic? More like Darwinism. I am not a cold person, oh wait I am. Road hunting with a bow from a moving vehicle is not legal and not very bright. A tragedy is death from a non preventable circumstance, this is not a tragedy.

While I am sympathetic for the family of the person lost, you do have to scratch your head a bit at the circumstances.

Road hunting in the fashion I believe they were is illegal in every state I'm aware of. Even if it wasn't illegal, you have to consider the safety, or lack of, in the fashion they were hunting. This was just a bad idea from the start.

Even though the situation was questionable at best, I don't think the guy deserved death as his punishment.

That's a real head scratcher. Why!? Why in the world would you try to road hunt using a bow? Totally preventable. I feel bad for all involved.

My guess is they weren't shooting from the vehicle, they were most likely hopping on the back of it and driving down the road to get dropped off somewhere. That is perfectly legal in a lot of states so long as you're not shooting from the vehicle or the road itself. You can jump off, get off the road, and shoot away. If anything was illegal it was probably riding on the back of a vehicle with no seatbelt on.

It doesn't take much to smack your head on pavement and have some serious problems. They may have only been going a short ways and driving pretty slow. Seems to me like a bit of a freak accident that the handle broke and he fell the way he did.

Condolences to the family. That's is a tragic loss of life at such a young age.

If you're just riding to get dropped off somewhere, why not just sit IN the vehicle? I like your faith in our fellow man JZ but I'm leaning towards what the article suggests. I see no reason in any rational persons mind to connect a strap to yourself and stand on the back of the homemade platform, not to mention the giant pillow to sit on, just for the purpose to get from A to B. In my mind, this would be ludicrous with the article also stating 2 passengers. But as I mentioned before, he surely didn't deserve to die because of it.

I will also add I work in a jail. Unfortunately stupidity keeps me gainfully employed and my faith in fellow man has been vastly diminished over my 14 year career. There is no way possible you can dream up some of the things people do.

Very sad! Prayers out to the family. Young folks often don't think of the consequences of their actions.

How do you know the guy wasnt just climbing up to gain some elevation to glass from? It doesnt say anything about shooting from the truck.
Would it kill some people on here not to default to the judgmental ******* mode?
Its an accident, a bowhunter fell and is now dead. Someones son or husband or father maybe.

Seat belts and harnesses certainly have their place. Sounds dangerous without some kind of tether and harness.
