If he can grow booners on the rocks of southern Missouri, you could grow booners in Illinois. Can't control genetics but you can influence nutrition

Oh yeah...and I think in his time at the proving grounds they've only had one sure fire booner on their property habitually....however each year they seem to get bigger and better antler production. This all in a county that if I remember him right hadn't had a P&Y or Booner in YEARS if ever.

Ah, thanks for the clarification between the bucks on the show and the "new farm". Hopefully you have great hunting on the new place this year. We're all anxious to see you put some deer down this year and I'm sure I speak for all of us here when I say we all wish you best of luck this year. I know you passed up some deer last year, sometimes you have to kill something just to break a bad cycle. It sounds like you're ready to do that this year.

I figured that was the deal with Todd, I have a post in another thread saying something to that effect. I recall Todd saying in one of the episodes that you guys were teaming up on Baconator and STD this year there...I was just giving you guys a hard time. SO that's what happened to that property? I seem to recall hearing you mention that you guys may lose that lease, guess it changed hands. That is usually a pretty rough transition but you're lucky to get to keep it at all. Maybe over time circumstances will lighten up there and you can get back in there if you wish to do so. Until then, hopefully Todd has a good year too even if those two bucks manage to dodge him. Hopefully he gets a shot at one of them on camera.

As far as genetics on that one farm, that could be the case. Genetic potential is still a limiting factor. Just because recent findings indicate nutrition is more important, doesn't mean genetics are unimportant. If the does on that farm are throwing limiting antler genetics in spite of good established nutrition then it's more of a doe problem and genetics than anything else. If I was at a loss to improve bucks on a property, I think I may start trying to reset the game board and target the old mature does and see what effect that has along with maintaining a good nutrition program with plots and habitat.
