My draw length is 27" and i'm shooting easton st epic 340s. I'm not sure the spine but I was going to go from 9.8 to 8.5 gpi. I'm shooting right around 65 pounds, give or take a little bit.
I was going to get them to try something new. My bow as of right now (may change later today) is an older Mathews FX.

Yep. Remember that thread I started up a couple years ago saying I lost 12lbs of draw weight on my recurve? 2 years ago I went from 73lbs to 61lbs. This last summer I was still at 61lbs. Come late fall I started getting some erratic arrow flight with one of my practice arrows. I couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong. I grabbed one of my hunting arrows In my quiver and shot that at the target and It flew much better then my practice arrow. I threw the practice arrow away thinking/knowing that the carbon must be breaking up Inside the arrow (FMJ). A week later when I was shooting again I'd get a kick every once In a while In my arrow flight but not near as bad as the practice arrow I threw away. I went In and checked my draw weight at my draw length and I dropped another 3lbs from the summer. Moral of the story, my 340 FMJ's are too stiff with the drop In draw weight. If I don't hit my anchor point EXACTLY where It's suppose to be I'll get a slight kick. No way am I going to weight the front of the arrow up more to lessen the spine as these arrows are plenty heavy already. This summer I'll be making the switch to some 400 FMJ's In hopes of getting an arrow In the mid 600 grains or so. To make a long story short, my recurve of 16 years Is wearing out quickly. :(

Steve, I'm not much up on Trad gear or Trad shooting anymore since it's not my thing and there are very few Trad shooters in my area. I know that used to (30 plus years ago) the Ol timers I learned from always promoted using approx 10 grains per pound pull in arrow weight.

Is that still the norm or has it changed?

To be honest Dan I don't have a clue. I've never really payed much attention to the grains per pound thing.
