I am surrounded by poor bow shops. One just did some work, I came home and first arrow as soon as I released the whole bow blew up. String came off, cams were damaged. I have spoken to manufacturer and they said I can send bow to them and they will repair everuthing. I want to buy a press and do this myself for now on. Most presses I look at are fairly expensive. I don't mind the cost if I used it a lot, but realistically I am going to set up my bow and use it maybe once a year after that. I found these, seems smart and can be used in the field in emergencies. What you think of these?? my bow is a split limb hybrid cam, so manufacturer insists you use a limb press only!!! Ram Ratchet-Loc Bow Press
The buckmaster bow press is $45. It is amazing. Ive had it for a week, and it performs just like a high end bow press. I also made my own bow holder for my bow. If you have split limb, you need a L bracket. I have the modules on the mission ballistic, so I needed the 1 1/8 in. wide brackets. If you get the wrong brackets, they will send you new ones for no charge. The bench I made was 6: 2 by 4 for legs, a piece of plywood for the top, then I layered it with some retro carpet. I put it in place with some staples. The video on it is called Do-It-Yourself Bow Press.
I used a ratchet press for years. I knew I eventually wanted to get a real press, which I did this winter. I ended up getting the Bow Time Machine, and I like it a lot. I'm glad I got it too, because the ratchet press doesn't work well with my Creed. The cams are too big for it.
I would say that investing in a good commercial press is the way to go. I've had cheaper presses, and now own an EZ Green press. So worth it. The BTM press that Fitz has is also great. Sent from my SCH-I545
I only had one guy that I trusted to work on my bow within an hour or so drive. Shop isn't always open and often he's not available (gone hunting) so did some research, started to learn and ended up with the EZ Green. Still learning as I go but if I mess up, only one I can blame is myself. Also have a back up bow set up for need if I have any problems that I can't fix. I like to shoot nearly every day and don't want to miss shooting time or time in the woods if I can get the time to hunt.
Yea I am thinking about getting a press myself. Looked at those ratchet strap one your talking about. Read a review from a guy who said when he released it it broke his limb. I was thinking about that myself, you would think that releasing the tension would almost be like dry firing. Anyone have any experience with using them that could clarify?
