I have been seeing more and more people getting more than ibo speed out of newer bow and wondering how it is possible as shooting a lighter arrow i asume would also loose spine. What are some of the tricks of getting more speed out of these bows.
I have never seen a bow shoot faster than IBO. Nothing more than a few feet a second anyways. Keep in mind, IBO speed is measured with a 30" draw length and a 350gr arrow for 70# and 300gr for 60#. The "calculated" IBO will change a lot depending on draw weight, draw length, and arrow weight. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
I can't see how it's possible. I was always under the impression bow companies advertise a higher IBO speed than the bow actually shot to begin with. You can get the bow to shoot faster than IBO if you shoot a really light weight arrow, keeping in mind if you shoot less than 350g arrow from 70lbs/30" its not IBO anymore. I'm sure if you put a light enough arrows in say a PSE Omen assuming the bow did not blow up and the arrow did not explode it may hit 400FPS but that is not under IBO specs
I have seen guys shoot faster using a lighter arrow. I've also seen some of their bows blow up. There's a reason for the 5 grains per pound rule. Welcome to the forum.
I never get IBO, nevermind over IBO. I don't even try. I think most bows are capable of taking game at well under the IBO, so I don't worry about it.
Some bows have draw lengths over 30 inches if they are shootIng a longer DL than that could increase speed.
Sorry should have been a little clearer with this question. I should have said faster than advertised speed I seen bows that are supposedly shooting in the 340s 350 shooting ten fsp behond that we are talking in a 3d or target setup.
im sure with certain temperatures and weather conditions combined with the right arrows you could get faster. Though its probably dangerous if youre underspining your arrow, they also take out the fletching during testing.
As already stated. Longer draw lengths or lighter arrows. I have got several bows to shoot at IBO. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Some claim hoyt bows shoot faster than their advertised speeds but most that claim that are calculating what they should be shooting at a shorter draw length than 30". Not an accurate assessment at all. There are tricks to getting faster speeds. Different string materials, fewer strands. Twisting cables to find the sweet spot (I'm not a fan if this. I twist for tune, not speed) speed nocks. Just to name a few. sent from my samsung note 2
Bows shooting at or above IBO? We're not talking about Mathews are we? hah.. Love my Mathews bows but have never got them to shoot anywhere near the rated IBO. However every buck Ive dropped with it shows it really doesnt matter...
Do speed nocks actually work? It seems like you're just adding more weight to the strings which would slow it down.
Well I was a big on making my bow faster and faster and faster, but I ended up settling on the bow's kenetic energy. So now I shoot at 25in DL and 70lbs DW, even though its 70lbs i know it will never shoot as fast as the advertised IBO speed but sure as hell I can make sure to penetrate the deer with the appropirate arrow. I am now a firm believer of Kinetic Energy rather than speed. Though it is nice to have a smoother more forgiving bow.
Yes max, the speed nocks work but typically no more than a couple fps. They make more of a difference on true 2 cam bows than a 1 cam or a hybrid. The key is to place them out near the cams and fine tune the placement with a chrono. Not worth the effort imo. sent from my samsung note 2
Agree with this. Although, we did get 6 fps out of an AM32 last year. I was surprised. Seems to me a lot of people in this thread do no understand how an IBO rating works. My current bows IBO rating is 326 fps. With my setup I am shooting 261fps, which when calculated, is within 1fps of the advertised speed. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Not worth the trouble I believe. I'm just looking to get the most from my set up. I shoot 50 lbs with a 365 grain arrow. Should I go heavier? Or am I okay?
You should be good to around 70# with that weight arrow. You can go heavier if you want, but don't need to.
I had a z7x and I wanted to try to check the stated IBO vs. calculated (I don't have a 30" dl and 350 grain arrow), but from the specs I was shooting, I was almost dead on 330. A friend at work said he was almost 10 fps faster on his AM32 also.
