In Virginia you can't hunt on Sunday's. Archery Season started Oct 1, Muzzleloading Nov 5, and general firearms on the 26 of November and concluded 2 weeks later. 2 weeks.

I'm short on time here but why waste time buying a rifle to hunt with when you can hunt with a bow through out the season and continued with a muzzle loader to end it?

    Why get a rifle?

I second that one. Only thing I rifle hunt for is small game and coyotes. Modern inlines are almost as good as most rifles but still added more challenge n makes u wait for that perfect shot instead of letting u get trigger happy. I personally don't have any use for a big game rifle.

Some guys like the 300-400 yard shots...makes them feel macho :D Only way I'd think about getting one is if I was going to be hunting wide open places and whomever owns the ground would rather me use rifle for whatever reason.

Because we have a right as American citizens to own and use a rifle. Plain and simple. I prefer not to use one but, my brother does on occasion. Coyote, now thats a different story. I will be hunting them with a bow this year but, I may also take the old .243 just in case they wont come in to range. I am declaring all out war on those things this year.

I understand your point though. Thats like here in NC. Our Muzzle loader season is only 2 weeks. Most of the rifle guys own one so that they can go out 2 weeks early than the rifle season is and use a fire arm. I honestly do not see the point in even having a muzzle loader season any more considering the technology going into them and the distances they are accurate to now. Others would argue similar about compound bows though.

Trust me I own more then my share of guns and yes, several big game rifles. I guess I should re word it. I have no use for them in the field. I free up shooting and its my favorite thing to do. From bows to guns. Shotguns to rifles..17hmr to .338. I love to shoot. And that's one of the many many great things of being an American. But I highly doubt ill be putting any steaks in my freezer again that fell to a centerfire. Just me tho, I have all the respect in the world for any hunter and thank him or her for enjoying this wonderful sport and help keeping it alive.

    Yes it does...

Quite similar to the 50-60 yard bow shots.

    I will, because I can!

I loved my bow and bowhunting before a messed up shoulder made it impossible to draw or shoot it.But I also love to shoot and hunt with my muzzleloader ( both my old sidehammer Traditions and my CVA ) and any of my rifles.I love to shoot my old Vanguard 300 and my 270.
After missing an entire season and half of this past seaon,I've learned that it's not the weapon of choice that makes the hunt. It's the time in the woods, the experience, not just what I happen to be hunting with that day.
Guess what I'm trying to say,is it's all about the toys you enjoy playing with.
