I like shooting my 525 grain set up.. I like everything about weight forward etc.. so with that being said, is there a bow out there on the market that could spit one of my hvy arrrow set ups flat out to 30 yards.. 1 pin 30 yards.. 525 grains of weight .. ???

Thanks for your insight ... thoughts ahead of time..

How much weight are you pulling? IIRC, aren't you pulling 80lbs? Also, what's your DL?

A new Destroyer 350 will get you pretty darn close. They max at 70lb models though. Not necessarily a bad thing though, it's still going to be noticably faster than your 80lb Liberty.

Assuming a 70lb Destroyer maxes at 71lbs (most likely), with your 525 grain arrow, 28"....and a 25 yard zero, you will end up with the following ballistics:

    5 yards - 1" low
    10 yards - .88" high
    15 yards - 1.72" high
    20 yards - 1.43" high
    25 yards - Dead nutzz
    30 yards - 2.57" low

Oh yeah.........you would be producing 92ft/lb of KE as well. That is roughly enough to run a bull moose through end to end, and still go through the VW that ske1etor mentioned. :D

For reference, your liberty at those same specs except 80lbs (instead of 71), is only producing around 82ft/lb.

Demo bows should be in most shops by this week or next. I'd call your local shop first and check in, if not already then I'd imagine VERY soon.

Production bows should be following soon too. I've got a 340 on order (350 doesn't fit my monkey arms), and if I'm lucky will get to hunt with it during the late PA season in January.

Matt, again thanks a ton, I have a feeling the Mathews Monster is another option for me and that it goes up to 80lb limbs as well..

Matt one more ?... if i dropped down to say 500 grains.. would I see an increased height/variance of margin at say the short ranges ( 10, 15 , 20...but then a smaller margin in the tradjectory out at 30 yards...? help me with these physics.. thanks..

Sorry I missed your posts Troy.......didn't see them till you just bumped it.

The monster will be plenty fast, but make sure that you shoot it at the same measured dl as the Destroyer, if your looking at the speeds of both. The Monster will typically be significantly longer in DL than what is stated on the DL module, while Bowtech is typically dead on. The Monster itself is also VERY heavy as far as mass weight, and the one I have shot and handled was very unbalanced and top heavy. I haven't handled the Destroyer yet but it's gotta be better balanced and is advertised as being pretty light. I think Mathews is headed in the right direction with that bow, but it seems as if they need a few more years for the new technology to really mature.

500 grains isn't going to really matter a whole lot. What I'd do if I were you, and what I'll be doing with my own Destroyer, is get yourself some lighter carbon arrows, and add in a solid brass insert to bring your FOC and weight up. A perfectly spined setup is listed below, considering a 28.5" 71lb Destroyer. This is the same setup I'll be shooting except longer arrows.

    • Goldtip Pro Hunter 75/95 - 27.5"
    • Pin nocks
    • Muzzy 100gr brass insert
    • 100 grain head (pick one)
    • Bowhunting.com Predator wraps (you know you want them) ;)
    • Blazers or 4" feathers
    • Final weight of 456.5 grains
You would get just about 300fps on the button, and your trajectory would be as follows:

    5 yards - 1.33" low
    10 yards - .49" high
    15 yards - 1.33" high
    20 yards - 1.17" high
    25 yards - dead nutz
    30 yards - 2.19" low

You would still be producing about 91 ft/lbs of energy abd that would really be a true 1 pin to 30 yard rig and still at a speed that you can likely get good arrow flight with a fixed head. Most african guides are going to recommend upwards of 90ft/lb.........so you should be good for anything in the world really.......lol.

What program/chart/equation do you use to calculate these figures?

Sorry to hijack, but you recommend this program compared to AA or TAP?
