Anyone know the laws regarding having a bow stored in your trunk while on school property? I'd like to practice after school and would like to have it in my car during the day. The Superintendent (now retired) actually gave me permission to use the fields behind the high school but I never took him up on it at the time. He's since retired. I have a friend 5 minutes from school that will let me use their property. So is a bow classified as a firearm in NYS? I'd also like to be able to hunt in the afternoon in a few weeks and be able to stash my gear in my car so I don't need to go home first. Jim
If you have a school resource officer ask him, if not call the local police. Not worth taking a chance
im not sure about in new york but i have read news stories about students being expelled for having a bow in the car, i would assume its a very risky move....if the wrong person finds out about it you could be in some deep doo-doo
I came from small school but just talk to your principal and explain situation to them. Aslong as you tell them I don't see why it would be such big deal. Offer to leave the keys in the office until end of day or whenever. When I was in school me and my friends just put them in our back seat. Noone cared. But its all about location. I don't know how people react in New York. If you put it in your trunk you could get away with it but thats your call.
I live in ny but laws here are just ridiculous when I planned to hunt after school last year I parked across the street with bow in trunk
