I was invited to a week long hunt to my buddies cabin in Western MD at the end of October. Are there any special tips from you mountain hunters? I've only hunted the flat lands here in DE. I've heard that it is a lot more difficult to hunt in the mountains b/c of wind patterns and the fact that deer are more spread out. I plan on bringing a hangon and some sticks and my trail cam to do some quick scouting during the week. I want to be portable b/c i don't know the land so if im not seeing anything im gonna move around till i find them.
I'm in the blue ridge mts. of s.w. va.I love to hunt draws and benches along steep hillsides.watch the thermals, air moves up in morning and down in evening in general.
look for a low spot between two peaks hunt mid mountain and keep an eye on the wind expect often shifts
can you get an arial map of the property? That would let us mark a few areas that look promising. In that area (i hunt a few hours from there, and have hunted there before), dont expect giant bucks, or lots of deer. and you may wish to invest in a bear deterrant.
