I've just been assigned to Ellsworth AFB and I have no clue how to go about trying to find somewhere to bow hunt. Hunted the south east all my life now in a whole new world. Any tips or suggestions?
I don't know any specifics about SD, but there is an interactive map: South Dakota Hunting Atlas There's a static set of maps too if you just want to see everything all at once: Maps Good luck to you, it looks like an interesting area to give it a shot.
Quite a bit of the land in SD has hunting leases but its always worth a shot to knock on doors, I would definitely let them know that you are a seviceman assigned there.
I got a friend who lives on the other side of the state but mostly prairie there so that should make a interesting hunt later this year.
It's the truth. If you knocked on my door, I'd hand you my climber and point you in the right direction.
Man your lucky i have been trying to get to Ellsworth AFB for the past 5 yrs. Like others have said just go for a drive, knock on a few doors and mention the military and most people will be more than willing, at least in my experiences. Good luck!
Im stuck in Mountain Home Idaho, basically the armpit of the U.S. i believe! Im originally from wisconsin so trying to get closer to home, and the awsome hunting that the midwest has to offer.
I got a couple friends there, but I think ive found a guy here who will take me pronghorn hunting later this year.
According to Greg Miller (bowhunting celeb), he went out to SD and secured a whole bunch of hunting land by just knocking on doors. Also go to a local archery shop, usually a few of the guys be willing to help you out.
I'm heading home this weekend to go get my equipment and theres a little mom and pop store right off base here and im going to go up there and ask around.
