Okay it wasn't much snow but I got to hunt in it for the first time... maybe a 1/2 inch but it was pretty cool. (pun intended) I did learn a few things. 1. Tree steps and stands ice over and are very slippery. 2. Tree stand seats must be de-iced before sitting on them. 3. I can see a squirrel blink from a really long way. Visibility is amazing 4. Snow flakes in my eyes are really cold. 5. The cold seems colder with the humidity in the air while the snow is falling. 6. My favorite... writing your name in the snow isn't as easy as it sounds when you are shivering. LOL I had a blast... now I am jealous of you guys up north.
I did learn a few things. 1. Tree steps and stands ice over and are very slippery. yes 2. Tree stand seats must be de-iced before sitting on them. or if the snow has been sitting for awhile you have to just sit on it and get a wet a$$ as it melts.. 3. I can see a squirrel blink from a really long way. Visibility is amazing. Yes 4. Snow flakes in my eyes are really cold. Ok 5. The cold seems colder with the humidity in the air while the snow is falling. Don't agree. The humidity makes it seem warmer. 6. My favorite... writing your name in the snow isn't as easy as it sounds when you are shivering. LOL Ok I had a blast... now I am jealous of you guys up north. Admit it. You got over your jealously in like 3.4 seconds.
Agree with all of that BUT the last one. I would never make it up north. Below 30 and im stayin inside. lol
Agree with all of that BUT the last sentence. I would never make it up north. Below 30 and im stayin inside. lol
Nah... but temps in the 20s is probably pretty close to my limit. It did seem colder to me while it was still snowing than after it stopped. Mental thing I guess.
Dang! Good luck next time tho! The snow at least helped to show if there were any deer on your property, as you only saw one hoof print. I'm guessing they have moved off. The main thing with snow is that I go and look where they bed, kinda helps when im hunting late season.
I have never had the pleasure of hunting in the snow. I love cold weather but, in NC, it doesn't snow here until after deer season is over. All the reasons above are reasons why I want to in the snow and I one day will.
I've got to hunt in the snow a few times, love it! Never killed anything in the snow though.....one day.
Im from ohio. I live to hunt in the snow. Hunted about 3 hrs in -45 degrees one evening. Spent many many hrs on stand being snowed on but I wouldn't have it any other way. Y'all grow a pair and come see me late next season!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Humidity definitely makes cold air even colder. It makes hot air even hotter too. Basically humidity makes any situation worse as dealing with moisture is always a hard battle to win. Besides easy blood trails I don't care for snow. That said, if I'm hunting in below freezing temps I'd just assume there be snow on the ground as well...
I love hunting in the snow, some of the best days to go out and you usually have the wood to your self too.
