Going to Africa this summer and I was wondering besides plains game can you take an elephant with a bow I shoot a 60 pound bow?
You can, but I've only seen/heard of it being done with 90-100lb bows. I'm not a mathews guy, but I think their "safari" is an example of a bow made for this.
I am sure this question comes up in India a lot. Seems to me that trying to bag an elephant with a bow is like a mouse attacking a house cat, or a chicken attacking a fox, or a sheep attacking a wolf, or a drunken sailor attacking a grizzly bear with a broken beer bottle. I have to wonder what Fred Bear would say? Maybe something like "Hey keemosabee, the Great Spirit did not put elephants on the red man's land for a good reason ... arrows only work good on buffalo." :D
What about Tom Miranda he bagged one and he shoots like a 70 pound bow so I guess it is pretty possible
This is something you should ask your outfitter. He/she can tell you what are the requirments for ethically harvesting an elephant with a bow are or wether or not it is even possible. Good luck on your trip.
