I think I need to update my jacket. Almost every time I pull back and let it go, it catchs the sleeve or my belly part of the jacket. Is there any company out there that makes a like the left side of the jacket (for right hand shooters) tighter fit?
Check your form...if thats not an issue I use and compression sleeve when I wear bulky clothes. Realtree makes one.
I just picked up a Gamehide Gridlock jacket and it's probably the best bowhunting jacket I've ever owned. Not too bulky, but still warm, and quiet fleece. I'm in love.
I got the same jacket this year and have been real happy with it. Only problem it is a burr magnet. My coat and pants are covered in them. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
I was interested in the Under Armour line of clothes also. What jacket do you have? I am looking into a layering system cause right now I have a pretty large Cabela's jacket that can have the rain fly come off the outside so its just a cold weather under jacket but it I wanted something tighter so it won't interfere with shooting my bow, which it does right now. Sorry if I hijacked this thread a little bit.
I have a UA compression shirt that is my base layer. I am so impressed with it I would give it 5 stars. I was really skeptical when it came to these, but I am a believer. They are warm and fit great. I also have UA Capture jacket and pants. I would give them 4 stars. They arent incredibly warm so layering is a must which is why I have the compression shirt. The pockets on the jacket are great but the pockets on the pants are Velcro, making them virtually useless to the archery hunter. I wish there was a hood or even the option for one on the jacket. The pants fit great and they have a built in compression base layer that keeps me pretty warm. I wear medium shirts, sweatshirts and jackets but for this jacket I had to get a large (which is almost too big) so I wish there wasnt such an extreme difference in the medium and large jacket. Wearing just the jacket and pants, you would be comfortable down to 40 degrees. Wearing the jacket and pants with compression base layers would be good down to 25. Beyond that, you will need more layers. I would absolutely recommend the compression shirt and feel like the jacket is a preference thing. Since I hunt a lot of cold South Dakota mornings, this jacket/pants combo might not be made for me. The fit is a little stiff, I just have to get them broke in a little. Hope this was helpful.
Fortunately, for the past 40 yrs., I've been blessed with a wife who is a good seamstress. Velcro and a small "D" ring or, small web straps and a buckle, on the back of the sleeve and the sides of the jacket can be adjusted for a snug fit and allow for expansion if you need more clothes. Pretty much all my bowhunting clothes have this modification as well as having the upper pocket and flap removed. Since I shoot left handed, most of the stuff I've tried (jackets with elastic sewn into the sleeve or compression straps, etc.) has needed modification anyway. Just get the clothes you like and modify them to your needs. I use wool, polypropylene, down and, a number of other synthetics for layering and can hunt in some pretty bad conditions without being too bulked up. If you hunt in spite of the nasty cold and hard rain however, there will be times something needs to be held out of the path of your bowstring.
I googled the Three Layer Method and it helped clear things up alot. Now Im going to start clothing shop when I go to cabelas tonight. Someone take my credit card from me, please.
I don't have to deal with cold all that often. I love the Bug Tamer jackets that I can throw over whatever I am wearing... or not. They go great from 8 to 80 degrees. and camo isn't an issue.
