how do yall keep em from getting all tangled up??? i carry two with me, the thicker one is easier to manage (back pack), but the thinner one sucks. i use it to hoist my bow and is always a rat's nest!!!

ooops did i just answer my own question? thicker rope....

Pretty sweet little tool. I always just leave rope at each stand. For my climber I had small string on a spool.

I leave one with each stand that I hang. For the one that resides in my pack for climbing situations, I am cheap. I cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of an H and wrap it up. When it's beat, I cut another.

If I can get new rope to last through a couple season without being chewed on, the squirrels eventually leave them alone and the rope can last a long time left hanging. I also have the same retractable in the link for when I go to other places and hunt.

Don't laugh, but I've used a retractable dog leash and it works great. Cheap (like $5 on sale) and doesn't kink up and really easy to pack. It's not the strongest pulley system in the world, but it still worked great for my purposes.

Now I have a dedicated gear hoist that I picked up at BPS a while back, but the dog leash worked for me for a few seasons.

And talk about multi-tasking, now the dog leash works as the retractable anchor line for my canoe. Works like a charm!

I have the old Strapper Retriever. It doesn't self retract, but it has a handle thing that you just wind up the strap when you're done. I took mine apart, drilled a few holes in the back plate, slid some zip ties through the holes, put it back together and zip tied it fast to my climber. Never forget it, its out of the way and quiet.
