I'm 19, and 6;3 and getting into bow hunting and looking for a bow to start out with. I need a little advice or recommendation, I want a bow that would be suited for amateur. And a $500 Limit. Haha Thanks

Check out the Mission Line by Mathews. The Craze is a really nice bow. It has ridiculous amounts of adjustment Draw length is 19"-30" which should be long enough for you. Draw weight from 15-70lb and an IBO of 305. The brace height is 7.5" which is pretty forgiving. I shot the bow at my pro shop and I liked it. Around $450.00 gets you the bow ready to shoot. Release and arrows are all you need. The Maniac is another nice one by them. I don't remember the price but, I think it is close to the same. Maybe a little more. They are made by Mathews and I have heard nothing but, good about these bows. Best thing to do though is go to your local pro shop (Not Bass Pro, ****'s or GM) and have them measure your draw length, have them set up all the bows that are in your price range and shoot them. If you ask them they will do it if they don't offer before you can ask. Make sure they know your price range and that you are new to archery. The one that feels best is the one you want to buy. Here are the links to both:

If you are not really sure how to set one up either here is something to think about. After you get hunting you will learn how to do it all but here they set up your bow and they come with everything you need and great people. Here is the site and the packages you can get. If you dont like something in the package they will change for you to what you would like. www.huntersfriend.com and the bow packages for men! Click link below.....

I've been hearing good things about that Mathews Craze. Specwise I like it because when you decide to get another after it, it will appeal to more people on the resale.

That said though, If I was spending 500ish, I'd saving another week and getting a Bowtech Assassin for $529-569. It's a really nice package bow.

Check out the Mission line and Diamond line. They both make some pretty good bows for your price range.

    PSE Brute

    Qwest Hammer

    Diamond Outlaw

All three great package bows, all $500. Diamond is the fastest at 330, Qwest is at 318, and the Brute is 312. Qwest has the best strings, PSE has the worst. There's no better decision making method than shooting the bows.

Go online and find a used bow about 1 or 2 years old. You can find geat deals. Not trying to put any of the other poster in this thread down but you can find a nice used bow that is alot better than a Mission IMO.

Go to a reputable Archery store and shoot several. Way to many variables to choose just one. Shhot them and you will be ableto tell which one suitsyou best.

    Two words. Mission Craze

One of the main selling points for me was the short 28 inch axle to axle length. Makes a great bow to shoot out of a ground blind or tree stand.

That depends on how much you can pull. Try them out, but keep in mind you'll get stronger and once your muscles get used to it, draw will be easier.

As far as a bow goes...
    1. Buy a new one - There are a lot of really good options on the market for $500 but keep in mind accessories. Don't let people tell you one brand is better than the other, especially shops. Go and shoot all kinds.
    2. Buy a used one - Very often you can get really nice, lightly used bows, for right around your price point.

I chose option #2 when I started, but I sure didn't have that much to spend.
However, what that did teach me was how to set a bow up, tune and maintain a bow. Also, if I didn't get into it, I wasn't in for a lot.
If you buy a used, take it to a shop and have them set it up for you. Make sure your peep is in the right spot and your draw length is correct. It's very important to get your correct form down now.
However, make sure you buy some arrows from them, help'em out a bit.

Keep around this site. There's a lot of information to be had and a lot of very good and helpful people. Easily one of the best forums I've ever been on as far as the people on it are concerned.

When you go check out the bow, try out both. A lot if it depends on how developed your archery muscles are. The general rule of thumb is find a weight that you can sit down on a chair and pull back without much struggle. If you have a weight that's too heavy, your forgiveness is going to be significantly compromised, but 60lbs or 70lbs are both good to start with. Whichever one you feel more comfortable with after shooting.

Shooting the bow first is the best thing to do but you can some times hit it lucky with just doing some reading & buying a bow off ebay? I got my bowtech general, 09 diamond marquis off ebay for under $500.. you can get a 09 bowtech admral for about $500 on ebay NEW most of the time & well yeh thats a heigh end bow that will out perform many if not all of the new lower range bows for the same price.. just thourght it may be a option mate
