After hunting gun with me for 3 years. My buddy has started to join me on archery hunts. Today he had a doe with in 15 years and was wishing he knew how to bow hunt. I told him I would ask around to see who has a nice used bow that would be good for a beginner. His plan is to practice enough this year to either hunt late season archery or be ready for next years season. He is not familiar with bows that much or shooting so the bow would need to be user friendly and easy to shoot. He is 6'1" and currently getting measured for DL. If you have a bow that you believe would match and willing to let it go for no more than 150 bucks, feel free to respond. (He has been out of a job for almost a year so budge at this point is an issue. No need for replies if your not in the 75-150 range. He just can't do more at this point. If you do not have a bow however, have suggestions on the type of bow a beginning should start out with, I am all ears.
My buddy found a family friend that no longer bow hunts. He now has a loaner which he is picking up later this week.
Glad to hear that. I was going to check out a almost new PSE I have at my place in Wisconsin for him. Don't recall what the draw length and weight are.
I am a brand new bow hunter, 38 years old. i tried craigslist for a while and saw aome ok deals. I went with a Mission UX2 by matthews but that is going to be out of his price range. I fortunatley have not been affected by the economy, job loss. Souds like some of the other guys here may be able to help, either way good luck.
Guys - I missed the last couple posts due to user error. My fault. I wanted to say thanks for the comments and possible offers. Providing a bow to a perfect stranger over the web is nice. Especially, now when you can turn just about anything over on e-bay for 50 bucks. I like the idea so much that I plan on donating my bow to a new comer if I can actually save and buy a new one! In the end my cousin donated to my buddy his New Wave, Point Blank bow. From the post till now my buddy has had a private lesson to learn how to shoot from the local proshop He practiced a lot on and off each day for a few weeks. I had him at a local public range and he was grouping consistently out to 20-25 yards. Hitting mostly kill shots from 30 and 40 just not as tight groups like 20 - 25. Tonight he went on his first ever bow hunt!!! I was not there as he went on his own. He spooked a bedded deer on his way in (learned a bit doing it) as a doe was bedded right where he wanted to setup. He walked right up on it in the tall grass without seeing it. Then hunted a small scrub field near a pear tree the rest of the evening from the ground. No other deer however, getting this far this quick is a knock in the belt if you ask me. I could not be more happy for him at this point. He earned the right to bow hunt through proper practice and passing a field test with me at the range. He knows his limit right now and will not be taking shots over 20-25 yards at this point. Another one has joined the ranks.
