so i get a text from my wife saying "call me PLEASE" so i call her, she informs me that she had just gotten home and that our grill had been stolen along with our >1 year olds outside toys, all of them. and that someone had tried to get inside of the house. im freaking out im overseas and feel like there isnt a damn thing i can do. i immidiatly called up my uncle and told him id wire him some money to get a trail camera with a lock box so i can catch this scum in the act. what kind of low life tool bag would steal some one elses childrens toys? mind you i live in a town with a population of around 400 if not less. is it just me or does this happen all over? im pretty friggen ticked

The days of leaving anything out are long gone bud. I had someone break into my barn to look at the condition inside just because my place is for sale. He emailed my realtor and said he thought the place was over priced because of x, y and z and also he couldn't look around in the house because I had a dog in the house. Mind you, the guy didn't have an appointment and wasn't out here with a realtor.

So are you folks saying I should start locking my doors? I really don't usually. I don't leave attractants like 4 wheelers out.... but that's about it. My brother doesn't lock up either except when he goes away for an extended time... like his present 5 week trip to Montana.

I usually lock up the house and the only things that were out were my sons toys, a grill and my wifes pink fishing pole, they took everything but the pole,

THat is crap man!...I just had my camp broken into on sept 23 but found out the friday after when a buddy went in to his camp next to mine. I caught the guy on cam, though the photos weren't good enough to convict anyone we and law enforcement know who he is(WI punk with a record of B&E) and a good description of the vehicle. Well they actually had him staked out late fri night at the bars in Hurley WI but had a disturbance call and when they got back 15-20 minutes later he was gone - not sure if they got him yet. Thing is it sucks to have to waste a couple good scouting cams(and the money) to have to watch your stuff. One thing I did learn - put the highest megapixel/best picture taker where it can get plate numbers and best face shots and put a second cam, hid better yet, watching the other cam. Hope you get some justification and the rat gets nailed to the wall.

Man I hate reading these sort of thread but they are necessary to inform us all that you can't just leave stuff out. It really sucks that it happened at your home and not you ground. keep an eye on Craigs list for those stolen items. that's the best way to nail them.

I'm sorry to hear that. It probably is to feed a drug habit. I hope they get locked up. I think they make a camera that will give you a live feed over the internet of whats going on. You could monitor the house from anywhere.

Sorry to hear that Billy, especially while you are deployed. I've had my fair share of troubles back home while I've been overseas as well. Hopefully they catch the turd. I bet if your wife talked to the local sheriff that they could arrange for a patrol to cruise by now and then especially due to you being deployed at the moment!

Have her brother start doing target practice near the house a lot, let em know there is a possibility of getting shot if they trespass again!
