I am currently in the market for a new pair of hunting boats. I have been using lacrosse rubber boats and like them especially for the reason to be able to walk creeks but on long hike ins there not the most comfortable also still have that rubber smell that makes me wonder if I can smell it I know the deer can and yes I play the wind. Just makes me wonder about entry and exit? So what do y'all prefer rubber or a leather boat? And why? Thanks
I like using lacrosse arrive at boots. They are very comfortable I have had no issue walking miles in them. They aren't a runner boot so they don't have a smell to them. I just like to be able to tuck my pant legs into the boot i feel like it helps me with my scent control and keeping ticks out
I believe that a rubber boot will be helpful in keeping your scent off the ground. (and ticks off too!)
For me personally, your choice is a good one and would be my second choice. As nice as the neoprene boots are these days, I believe they are a catch 22 as far as scent control. That neoprene on the inside is very porous and is a giant scent sponge. I prefer rubbers boots with a removable liner that cant be washed or sprayed with a scent eliminator. Usually such boots are "old technology" but that wool or felt liner is great and they are usually less expensive than the high tech neoprenes.
I like the muck Arctic boots they seem to be the comfortablest boots I've found and they keep my feet the warmest. Still though my feet only stay warm for about 2hrs while I'm sitting. Have not tried the lacrosse
My feet sweat way too much for using rubber boots honestly....what good does scent control do you if you've saturated the things in sweat and they are not sealed at the top no matter what you do? I still use em, but last year I bought some Danner boots and my whole life changed. I treat them and soak them in scent away spray but they breathe! I have stayed on stand longer now with them with less insulation than I ever did with rubber boots due to my feet sweating and freezing up even on "cool" days not freezing days. Just something to consider.
I knew someone would ask...I believe it was the Pronghorns....let me hit up their website and see if I can tell.
I believe it was the 8" Pronghorn 400G I want to get a 800G but sadly won't be this year. Money has went towards other stuff like the land :D
Does anybody have an opinion on the rubber smell that the rubber boots put off? As far as scent control/ entry and exit routes. I feel like if I can smell it I know the deer can!
That scent should wear off with time...You can always help it along...start wearing you boots through much and dirt, every time you see some deer droppings rub your boots in it. You can use products like deer dander or deer herd in a stick to cover boot scent walking in. I have had a pair of Mucks which I quite liked but are wearing out. I also have some Lacrosse Aeroheads that are nice. I think after wearing my Aeroheads for a full season I prefer the fit and support of the Muck. Will see how the aeroheads hold up coming up on season#2. My Mucks were Woody Elites I think and they did a great job for about 5 seasons, but now the fleece lining is wearing out, and they aren't as warm as they used to be. They are surprisingly still waterproof and I still wear them for shoveling snow and other farm chores. If I was going one all season boot money no object right now it would probably be the Muck Pursuit Glory. They are flipping expensive though. Next would be the Lacrosse Aeroheads. I am also experimenting with a new breathable rubber boot from Banded this late season they are 1200g and instead of neoprene they are made out of a breathable canvas like material and fleece lined. I am hoping they solve the moisture issue that walking in a distance in rubber boots then standing in freezing cold temps for several hours causes. We'll see...
JDUB I'm interested in those banded boots, keep us updated. As far as smell goes on rubber boots. I have a pair of Burly's that still stink of rubber after 10 years. I used them around the farm for a winter to see if i could kill it and they still stink. They got demoted from a hunting boot because of it. Don't know if it matters but i don't want to chance it.
If you're walking lots... LL Beans Maine Hunting Shoes.... Since Ive tried them, I've used nothing else!!
I love the lacrosse aeroheads. Although I did have a pair tear, sent them in and they sent me a brand new hair. I find them to be super comfy and with the rubber on the front I don't have to worry about them getting punctured. I wear them from turkey to late fall fall.
primarily use non-rubber boots. do a lot of walking and just more comfortable. picked up some Danner stalking boots about 8 years ago and they've been great. provide plenty of support but can feel when you step on a stick so as to move your foot and not break it. the other pair I use regularly is a set of cami RED HEAD boots that are similar to the Danner pronghorn at half the price. will occasional use rubber boots in very wet weather but otherwise not.
