I took some advice from a few here and went out last night and got myself a set of Pronghorn boots made by Danner. I was planning on then buying a GPS made by Lowrance but from what I was told at a few different stores was to stay away from them being their a tad on the slow side compared to the other models they made the last few years. So then I went a different route and bought a Garmin Oregon 450t. This GPS has topo's built right Into It, that was the selling point for me.

Anyone here own a Garmin 450t? If so, your thoughts on It please.

I don't own that model but the Garmin I do have is an excellent GPS. I think you'll enjoy yours.

Garmin is the one of the best imo when it comes to GPS. I have several older Garmins and a newer Tom Tom that seem to work great, just make sure you update your maps every so often!

I've go the most basic of basic Garmins... and I still love it.

It's taken me all around the Rockies and brought me home safely to camp each night. :)

    Steve,

I'm close. I picked up the Oregon 550T. If I'm not mistaken the only difference is that the 550T has the built-in camera. You're gonna love that thing.:tu:

You'll be impressed with the sensitivity of the antenna and the unit's accuracy. Another thing.... If you're somewhat computer savvy (and even if you're not) the custom map compatability will blow you away if you choose to use it. I'd have to find the link to the instructions, but it allows you to take any JPEG map image (terrain, arial, satellite) and overlay it onto Google Earth and then save it in your 450T. You can then use your GPS to navigate a custom map of your choosing. I prefer Google's terrain map to a regular topo so I overlayed a terrain map of my lease onto my 550T. It's a fantastic feature.

I have a Garmin, but not that model. Mine is great. I've had no complaints with mine.

The camera does have one imminently cool feature. Automatic geotagging. You can be out scouting and see an ideal tree to climb. All you've gotta do is take a picture. Later you can select that picture, select "navigate to" and navigate your way right back to where you took the picture. Other than that, the camera is just low-average as far as resolution goes. 3.2 megapixels isn't great by today's standards but it's better than nothing.
