I didn't last too long on the stand this morning, 20 degrees and a little windy here in eastern WI. My core and hands stayed warm but my feet and toes got so cold I couldn't feel them and had to get out of the stand after only a couple hours. I had 800 thinsulate boots on with wool socks even. I did some research (Google =P) and found these boot covers (link below)....anyone ever used them? Are they worth the money? I'm about to go get them - I almost got sick when I left the woods this morning. Thanks for the help! http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?r=view&i=428515
Sweat is your enemy. In cold weather you want to change socks at the stand. Use a good polypropylene base layer sock with a good wool over that. I use arctic shields and my boots aren't even insulated and changing socks and the shields keep my feet toasty warm. When it reaches single digits, you may want to throw some hand warmers in the shields. I got a great deal on some 2000 gr thinsulate lacrosse boots this year but it hasn't gotten near cold enough to test them yet. I don't think i will be able to do much walking in them. Before they get cold. Dry socks will help keep them from getting cold. When its real cold, i change them at the base of the tree. Sometimes in the tree, depending. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
